I am looking to buy a GPS plotter for my 24ft Maxum. I dont want to spend a fortune about £450 max. I am considering a Garmin GPSMAP 550S I can buy online for £439. Anyone have any experience of this plotter or can recommend any other good product in that price range.
Cheers

I have just bought a Garmin GPS520 from ebay for £260, factory refurb with 12 months warranty. Appears great to me, and I can buy a chart with the balance!! I think the seller has 8 left.

Just to confuse things further... I have a pair of raymarine RC435's - very good raymarine kit, and they are available for under £300 now, as the 2009 raymarine kit supercedes them.

Disapointingly I paid over £600 each for them about 2 years ago! Very good bargain at the moment!

I have the Garmin 550s with forward looking Sonar. Yes it is not as good resolution as the 555s but it is still great and under £450 all in. I got the rear mounted (transom) sonar so no drilling through hull. Used it all last year around the Solent and later in Fowey in Sun, Rain and hail and had no problems. It is mounted on an open 19ft Centre console sportsboat.

Yesterday used it in the Mediteranean in full sun off the Costa Del Sol and had no problems.

It is my third Garmin and for Value for money the 550s is hard to beat!
