My Gen. set has now done 2000 hrs and I want to replace it next season. Any suggestions as to which are the most reliable expense is not really an issue, I just want something that will not let me down.

Northern Lights seem to have a very good rep.

We have a Kohler which has been good. A friend has one 22 years old. I was told by an engineer when a PCB failed that with Kohler you could order any one of 27 parts for the back end whereas with most gensets you'd need a new back end.

The SSCA survey shows Northern Lights with the largest market share (in a largely US dominated market) and the lowest breakdowns per kwh at 0.49. FP is 2.98 and Kohler 2.73. So though I'm happy with my Kohler if I was buying new I'd probably go for Northern Lights.

You may have seen this VERY COMPACT 3KW generator. I think it is worth a second look!!

Perhaps it comes as a complete package. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

easy to service
easy access
you'll need to be careful what you to twiddle with
bear in mind you'd need the right lubricant
having said that , doesn't look like a screamer so you shouldnt upset the neibours late at night
one final point I dought you'll need much choke ... to get things going
