It seems I posted in the wrong board earlier. Looking for suggestions. What's would you folks recommend as a good seaworthy flybridge (similar to sealine 305) for around £35k to £50k? Needs to be seaworthy, diesel and resonably comfortable inside.

Been looking at a 1987 305 loaded for £40+ but have read suggestions that it might be too light.

Hoping to fufill mum's dream of boating down to the med but sadly she left us this year and want to do justice on the budget we have.

£50k would just about buy you a decent shaftdrive Fairline Corniche 31 which is miles better than the sterndrive 305. Not sure you can go thru France to the Med on the canal system with a flybridge boat 'coz its too high to get under some bridges

Thanks for that. I am compiling a list now. Didn't think of bridges on the French canal system we were thinking of going down the Garonne. Guess if that's not possible we could go around via portugal et al. How long would that take?

The reason we are interested in a boat with a flybridge is probably the same reason most buy one - option of being out side or closed off when moored etc.

<How long would that take?>

Depends on how deep in the Med you are going .... somewhere between 2 - 3000 NM should get you well into the Med.... 15 Knot .... about 180 hrs I guess ....

Why not buy a boat in the med and go the other way ??? I have just done that ... (using land transport across france admittedly).

UK flybridge in that price range is limited to just a few, including mid to late 70 Princess 37's, Princess 30, 33, Broom 35, Fairline 31, Fairline 32 Fly,

If yo look at France, you will find Guy coauch 12 M and 10 M's..... Spain Gallart 10 & 13's, Italy ... loads.... (Italcraft, Fiart, Piantoni, Ilver, Settemari, Della Pasqua etc.).

Flybridge boat will come through the canals, or at least some of them, I have just done it with a Princess 410, Port St Louis - Le Havre - Southampton.

Thanks for the info guys. How deep are we going into the med? Good question. With the canal option was thinking of as far as the Balerics. Husband doesn't fly so buying one in the med would be a logistic nightmare - taking the train I guess and hopefully being able to buy anything we might need for the journey back.

How long did the trip take from Port St Louis to Southampton?

I had better get back to work - supposed to be doing the accounts - VAT return coming up but these boards are addictive.

Mallorca - S'ton was 4.5 weeks for us via Du Midi. A Corniche will do it but you must convert the radar arch to fold down as air draught is 3.3mtrs .
