hi looking for a second hand flybridge off shore cruiser which can handle the rough stuff and also to be able to anchor at sea, in the north west/isle of mann area.
can anybody recommend a boat. the boat will also have to be good looking and well planned and plush inside, to keep the wife happy. please note budget is only 100k or less,
thanks for you comments
marc.

Hi Marc,
Although my boat is not a flybridge model, my friend has a Fairline Corniche. At 33 foot its a decent size and I can vouch for the fact that it can handle the bumpy stuff really well. There are quite a few around and sell well, but because of the age you would get for that money you'd need to be very careful and a survey would be a must. Its a great boat though, as are the Princess models of around 1988 to early nineties. I would have thought it advisable to stick to a good make, unless you want something new and less glamorous - Bayliner do a flybridge model new for around £100k all kitted up!

Hope this helps a bit,

Mike

Hmm, not sure what boat you mean here. If it is the 288:

then that comes in at more like £75k with a diesel engine!

With regard to the original question, you might get an early Princess 360 for 100k - here is one in Poole:

Yep. Buy my P35. It's not quite gone up for sale yet. The upholstery was replaced only a few weeks ago. It's just got 60 metres of chain fitted, so should anchor more or less anywhere. Theres a webasco central heating system fitted a few weeks ago, not got the bill yet. It's a big boat, maybe equivelent to a modern 40/45 ft one.

Davits, newish dinghy and outboard.

Enough confidence in it, to deliver it personally from Plymouth.

Famous on here for handling most anything chucked at it.

just been looking at boats for sale and boats mentioned.

you dont get much for 100k!!!

the boats may be up to the job but the decor just does not live up to the job for me or the fussy wife.

we really like the cranchi atlantique 40 but carnt afford it.

i may have to review boats again,

any bodys help will be great for a good looking boat that is suitable for the uk climate.

hmm. I thought the Princess would have matched. You could get that one for less than 90k I reckon, through a couple grand in the direction of a decent upholsteror and Mrs will be happy.

Otherwise increase your budget or go for a sports boat. You would get a hard top if you went for a 32. How about this:

more details here. Its 2002, so newish, got all the kit and Nimbus can really handle the rough.

Though I suspect you really want somehting more bling than practicle.

Decor is fairly cheap to deal with. But at sub £100 k it's a no brainer. You need an Olsinki?? hull. Princess or Fairline. Less it's a smaller boat of course.

Up around the IOM you need lots of comfort and heating. A boat you can happily live on for days, with loads of back up systems. Something that is happy tied to a sea wall and comfortable when it rains for day after day.

A small newer boat, just can never give you this. Though might look more swish.

hi jez your last comments have got the wife view spot on she like's the glam we both liked the sessa c30 but it is a open boat not good for the north area.
if we went with the sessa the budget might get a new boat.

just keep looking through internet for the right boat.

Fairline Turbo 36 is the best handling flybridge boat under £100k. Excellent seaboat with huge space inside. Along the same lines except more like £110k min is Princess 435. Or have a look at the Princess 415 or 45

What's all this namby pamby rubbish open tops are no good for the Isle of Man /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We are out five times more than most of the flybridges here and just cus its bling doesn't mean it can't handle the rough stuff, we have been out in stuff that would put most back in port.

Us last Saturday afternoon heading back to Douglas, 23 knts and quite lumpy....no bother, rounding Laxy head was interesting, now you see us, now you dont, now you see us, now you........

Cant speak for your locals. But it's heaven having the choice of the fly bridge, see everithing. Or move down stairs. Heating on. Everything dry and no plastic seats. Down stairs is just like home.

none of all the covers undoing or fastening up.

Alass theres very few of us actually go anywhere on our boats. No matter what sort. The red diesel issue will only effect a few of us. I'm astounded every time I talk to my mechanic. He thinks we do far to many miles and certainly more than most.

But we've never been futher than PLymouth to Solent or the odd trip to Falmouth and back all year. dont think we went to the Scillies this year. Debs wanted to go to Britainy but the dog got in the way, other things as well.

Dont doubt you can cruise about with everything getting pisssed wet through. Much nicer if it's not. Warm and cosy is much better though.

If I wanted warm and cosy, I could sit on the sofa with the gas fire turned on.

Used to be cheaper than boating, but not sure now.

Would have to agree with Turbo36. Class looking boat with classic to modern lines, measures closer to 40' too and WILL come within budget, late models around 90+k in nice condition, I know a of a beaut that may be coming up for sale soon. (sadly, only due to wife's poor health)

This is one that Fairline got right imho, probably better suited to use up north than some of the others mentioned too.

I will second the Princess 360 recommendation, there should be plenty available for an offer of £100k.

Also worth looking at Sealine 350, 360 and F36

Its a good idea to stay well inside your budget so you can enjoy your boat without worries.
So many buy the best they can afford and then stay in the marina because they dont want to spend on berthing fees/diesel.

Fairline Sedan 36 is a capable boat and well within budget.

As Haydn says P35 also excellent boat.

Ah well you see we're a tougher lot than you up here /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually (in sales pitch mode) ours is very snug and not a drop of water came in last weekend and we were taking some good lumps.

Fair enough about the home from home in the saloon comment but then perhaps you haven't been in the saloon in one of ours, jolly nice it is too, aircon on, DVD playing my fav film the Cruel Sea, tinney in hand and stretched out on the sofa, mavellous..............

Totally shameful and utterly disgraceful sales pics /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thing I find more user freindly on a sports crusier is that you don't have to keep running up and down to the flybridge everytime its nasty just to see where you are going, spesh coming back into harbour in the p1ssing rain and no vis, I bet in foul weather I am warmer and drier than you after a long passage in the pooh! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
