The engine is a Four stroke 2008 DF5. The handbook says API SE, SF, SG, SH, or SJ 10W-40.

Question 1). Would it be better to run synthetic or part synthetic?

I tried the Castrol web site but none of the oils seemed to come up with the same API lettering.

Question 2). What about Castrol Magnatec either synthetic or part synthetic? Or is this just snake oil under a different form?

Any suggestions welcome. Thanks for the help.

Of the APi specs you quote only SJ is current the others are all obsolete.

SL seems to be the most commonly now available

Personally if I were to use an automotive oil I'd use either Castrol GTX10w40 or Magnatec 10w40. (Both API SL) An automotive oil may not be a wise choice though

Otherwise probably Quicksilver 4 stroke outboard engine oil. API SJ although only 10w30.

SuZuki market a 10w40 synthetic blend oil to API SG

I'd only use a fully synthetic oil if it were recommended.

Oil thoughts

Following a PM from VicS (Thanks Vic), who suggested that outboard four stroke oil would be better as it would be designed to cope with an engine which ran at higher rev's consistantly ie 5000rpm rather than 2500rpm in a car and would have a greater number of rust inhibitors, I contacted Suzuki GB. They had no idea as to why it would be better, but did suggest an outboard designed four stroke oil. I then contacted Tate & Crewe at Eastbourne, who are Suzuki dealers, they also recommended an outboard oil (Quicksilver or Motul) because oil its rust inhibitors.
