Folowing on from various boat brand purchases the following extract has been 'borrowed' from Boat US article “Who builds what boats” in BoatU.S.Magizine-

Brunswick .: Albermarle, Baja, Bayliner, Boston Whaler, Crestliner, HarrisKayot, Hatteras, Lowe, Lund, Maxum, Meridian Yachts, Palmetto Custom, Princecraft, Quicksilver, Sea Boss, Sea Pro, Sea Ray, Sealine International, Triton Boats, Trophy. [Brunswick also owns Navman and Northstar as well as Mercury]

Genmar Holdings. Inc .: Aquasport, Carver, Champion, Four Winns, Glastron, Hydra-sports, Larson, Marquis by Carver, Nuvari by Carver, Ranger, Seaswirl, Stratos, Triumph, Wellcraft, Windsor Craft.

Godfrey Marine/Rinker Boat Co. : Aqua Patio, Hurricane, Parti Kraft, Polar, Polar Kraft, Rinker Fiesta Vee, Rinker Captiva, Sanpan, SeaRyder, Sweetwater.

Tracker Marine Group : Fisher Boats, Kenner Boats, Mako, Myact Houseboats, Nitro, Procraft, Seacraft, Sun Tracker, Tahoe, Tracker Boats.

Just thought it might make us realise how similar all our boats really are!

But how does that make all the boat similar? They are all seperate companies competing against each other and developing their own products. It just happens that 5 or 6 people at the top get all the money.

Given the car scenario they may share development tools/costs and maybe some parts etc. They should also share learning and technology. So is it the Searay influence that has dragged down Sealine?

It is interesting and it is rare that these companies actually operate 'alone'. There are always one set of money men who tell them to share stuff around to save costs.

Look what Ford did to Jaguar and to an extent Aston. Fancy having a Ford Transit key to unlock your DB7. COuld be happening in boats to.

I knew there was some cross fertilisation but this list totally amazed me. Does this mean that we really only have a choice between 1/2 dozen manufacturers in all?

Looks that way doesn't it. I was amazed as well.

Congloms are good to support R&D, but also bad as they are able to shave quality and costs accross all brands to an 'Acceptable' level. This is what happened to Mercedes, probably Sealine Too. I think Sunnyseaker will be next. Look at the Brunswick list, they need a premium Brand. It is only time IMHO.

"Independent" US brands include Azure (Bennington), Bryant, Caravelle, Chaparral, Checkmate, Chris-Craft, Cobalt, Crownline, Cruisers Yachts, Donzi, Ebbtide, Mariah, Monterey, Regal, Reinell, Rinker, Sugar Sand, and VIP. Plus a bunch of ski boat builders and saltwater fishing boat builders. Of course many of these likely do not export boats to Europe.
