I need to lay up my 26ft fin keel yacht till next season. Would any of our informed readers please recommend a cradle type/ make that they have used? I hopefully intend to be able to leave my up. Many thanks for your responses.

I bought a Jacobs cradle for my 27ft Westerly last season. It's extremely sturdy - no fear of falling over.

However, one thing I would point out is that while it does come apart for transportation, the central column is longer than will fit in a car boot - it needs a car trailer for transportation. Whether this is an issue or not depends on your circumstances though.

I can manage this once a year, but I have seen other types where the individual pieces are small enough when broken down to fit in a car boot. If the central column on the Jacobs were articulated it could do the job - might be worth asking them if this is possible.

Yacht Leg & Cradle Co

I use a Yacht Leg & Cradle Co cradle and find it idela for my use. It fits, when dismantled, in the back of my Volvo for tranpsort home and is easy to re-assemble. No part is longer than 1.5m. It has stood up well to 60 knot winds with my heavy 38 footer and did not move when green seas came over the harbour wall onto the boat.
