Which bit should I cut off?

Brighton Marina (I know, I know, but it's only 5 minutes from our house and has a really great new restaurant...) has a special 'small craft berthing fee' for boats up to 6.5 metres LOA - considerably cheaper than their standard rate and one which we could just about afford if we stop eating. I'm desperate to have her near by. Santa Teresa, however, is 6.6 metres, only 10cm too long. Which bit should I cut off?

Tell them it will shrink when it gets wet enough and pay the lower price......

Now just what is all this metres thing, Santa Teresa is a good old fashioned imperial 20 or 21 footer and therefore 6.4 of those metric things. Tell them she is a Kingfisher 20 plus and hope they don't get out their tape measure to put over the very tip of the pulpit to the very back of the rudder. Otherwise, doesn't she have a removable rudder? Or you could run her into the sea wall and 'flatten' the pulpit a bit?

Plan B - visit them in person and smile nicely!

She is a 20+, though cunningly a K20+ is actually 21' 7" LOA. I was hoping to get away with it but the nice man on the tellingphone told me they measure the boat there. Miserable gits.

Hadn't thought of bashing her into a wall - she'd certainly also look more modern, with the straight up and down bow type effect...

Might try the eyelash-fluttering, winning smile, low-cut tops and all that. I may be a modern woman but hey, some things are more important...

You only need to 'lose' 3.9 inches! If you turn the rudder over to one side that should do the trick?

If it is really down to this! Cut off the front 6 inches of pulpit and re-join with internal spigots and drop pins through. Then stow whilst in the berth!

If you've a transom hung rudder - then rigging this to lift off has got to be the easiest approach (after low cut dress and eye fluttering) - you never know they may be nice to you.

Having first checked the marina berthing master is in fact a man (or can your partner flutter his eyelashes?).

If Brighton are desperate enough to be offering cut rates on their too-small, too-shallow berths - of which they have far too many - then nothing short of pure stupidity would make them apply the 'iron rule' and sacrifice the dosh for the sake of 3 inches.

Having said that, Brighton marina wouldn't be my choice for a very small yacht without an inboard engine, unless you are keen on joining in the racing. The sea there is rough, the entrance can be tricky with not enough power, and there are few places to go.

Have you an anchor hjanging over the bow, any appendage stuck on the stern .... ?? IS the boat TRULY over 6.5m ?

Many boats are actually physically less than the designated / stated brochure lengths !! I got a reduction in Langstone on my Club mooring on that very point ..... got them to actually measure the boat properly and she dropped a few inches right into the cheaper slot !!

Racing in a Kingfisher...now there's something that's probably not been tried too often.

Agree about t'other stuff, especially that there's nothing to do in a days' sail unless you're a round the cans type of person. We'll probably go with a cheap swinging mooring in Chi: it's closer than the Medway, lots of places to explore and good to run to if a blow gets going. But the thought of my boat being only 5 minutes away does play on my mind...

We are a really good bunch that get together for BBQ's etc. etc. (Well I try as often as I can !!!)
