hi i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions, i have a J24 on the east coast bases on the orwell and I'm not sure what anti foul to use. the boat will be going in the water in the middle of may for the Sail East series and some club racing and coming out again in september and thats about it. so i m looking for an antifoul that will last the winter out of the water does this exist? pulling it out and scrubbing shouldn't be a problem as we can do it from the slipway, so i had considered VC17 or Nautix white-speed but would it be a good idea to shot/sand blast the hull beforehand to keep the weight down? if i did shot blast how far does it go back to?

any help or suggestions would be great

thanks in advance

Please don't shot blast! Various firms offer hull cleaning services, but on a boat that small you will probably do better removing the old coatings yourself using a scraper and sanding. You only go back to the gel coat. Weight is not really an issue but smoothness is, so if you already have a smooth substrate then just recoat. Antifoulings described as Hard Racing or self polishing such as Hempels or International Micron are the ones to use in your application. You will find plenty of information on the websites of the major suppliers to help you.

If you are going to scrub regularly I would go for VC Offshore or 17M. Useless as antifoul but the teflon does make for a very smooth finish that cleans off easily with a pressure washer. I can do my J-92 in about 20 minutes. You will need to wash it off every 2-3 weeks in the main summer growth period.
