I will be spending a year afloat in the Ionian from next January, which anti-fouling have you used to give best rtesults. Also what should I put on the prop and exposed shaft?
I bought my yacht last year and have no idea whats on the hull at the moment, so will put on a barrier coat first.
Thanks for any replies.

Where to start??

After trying to get a clear view of what people are using as AF here in Corfu, I gave up trying to find the most effective/popular and value for money. Everybody had a different product/view!!!
So, I've started at the bottom, (sorry about that)....and applied the cheepest Greek AF I could find. That was called 'Syntex' and after 6 months in the water, the boat was fairly 'Hairy' and from memory, just a little worse that the state of my previous boat. (not sure what was applied to that boat, as someone else AF'd it for me), however, the marina Jet Wash guy said this was the fouling, easiest removal he's ever done!! the stuff just fell off!!

Ok, so now, I've removed all traces of that AF and next year I'll be applying the next one up the Greek price table and monitoring the result!!

I should have a very clear datebase in about 5 years!!

Anyway's, there are a couple of things emerging, already.

1-Allways use dark AF's. They work much better than lighter colours.
2-The cheep stuff works to a degree, but a piece of cake to remove any build up.

Regards.

We used Jotun Sea queen which was very effective, apart from a little slime the hull was clean. However cannot find it at any reasonable price locally, so unless some one can recommend a supplier of it at an affordable price will be going for local stuff. Will be interested in the suggestions and also place to buy it. Boat is at Aktio

Fouling levels appear to be highly influenced by the miles covered by the boat. For the past seven years we have been moving eastwards in the Med, using a wide variety of antifoulings, some bought locally and some carried out from UK. They have ranged from some fairly expensive Plastimo stuff to the cheapest that Screwfix and XM could provide. I cannot say that there has been a great deal between any of them, until this year when the boat did not move for a month at Leros marina. The growth that occurred in that time was astonishing.

I echo Jim's comment. We saw a boat whose propeller was immovable due to the amount of fouling that filled the area between prop and rudder after a few months lying at Vliho.

. . . . when the boat did not move for a month at Leros marina. The growth that occurred in that time was astonishing.

We found the same in Sicily, when we had to leave the boat for 6 weeks (July/August) in Catania; huge amount of growth and prop almost unusable. Locals pointed out that rate of growth was much worse in the summer months when water temperatures were highest.

We've also opted for the (usually cheaper) brands of antifouling used by the locals.
