Which 28-32ft 2nd-hand Yacht

Also the Dufour Arpege.. has excellent nav station and very commendable sea keeping qualities and good accommodation.

I've been looking around in a similar price range for a month or two. I'm really looking for a Hunter 26 / 27 ... but have strayed off to view
1. Dehler 28 ashore @ Ancasta, Poole. A huge monster of a yacht with wheel steering, an anchor locker bigger than my garden shed, original 1980's square plates / whiskey glasses and a shinny new 14hp engine. This would be perfect for you?
2. Countess 28 ashore at South West Yachts at Plymouth. A huge brick shit house of a yacht in good external condition ... but homemade interior

Good luck ... (I'm struggling, big time)

I second the Elizabethan 31. Excellent headroom for the period, very strong construction, some have up to six ^foot plus berths, excellent stowage and large galley for size of boat. Reasonable performance, very comfortable ride at sea and lot of boat for the money as not very well known, although featured in the Good Yacht Guide. Very active and friendly owners' assosciation. Sailed mine single handed 90% of time, big cockpit free of ropes and mainsheet tracks, will seat six adults in comfort, excellent, clear working focsle. I know of one recently refurbished, good survey in Gosport area. Would probably negotiate down to your price range (no I'm not selling it, but is very good boat and well worth visit.Even from Scotland. Former commodore of RCC had one from new and only recently sold. Did single handed UK to the Amazon (5000 in 50 days). Article and boat tests available from copy shop, most recent 'One Man and his Boat' 1990 I think. Also a very pretty boat that turns heads and attracts lots of positive comment.
PM me if you'd like more details or photos.

Thanks to everyone for the great advice, it has been and will be, very, very useful.

After lots of looking this weekend I have added extra criteria to my needs:
I think I need at least 1 quarter berth we need to be of a 1/2 decent size; not very big but also not a coffin.

Models veiwed this weekend were:
Snap Dragon 27 - too small
Halmatic 30 - lovely, would be perfect - but again without quarter berth
UFO 31 - as above
Verle 900 - lovely, quarter berth just a little too small
Hunter Impala - too small

Thanks once agin for everyone replies

I can comment on single handing a Trapper 500

Its no big deal once you get to know the boat, I've s/handed from northern Holland to Hartlepool by way of Chichester and Dartmouth with several cross channel trips thrown in.

Roller reefing headsail and an autohelm are all thats needed...and just reduce the main before you go out.

its ideal for 2 adults and 2 kids with a 7ft long q' berth

If looks and performance aren't important, I shouldn't waste time trying to find an Albin Ballad. They don't all have the quarter berth layout, and they're so difficult to find.

Sailed a friends She 31D - same hull? Very nice, handles very well, sails well.

You may be right but I would struggle to recommend a slow and ugly boat! Anyway, don't put them off they could always look abroad where there are a few more that could joint you in the UK. Hope the rest of the season was good and look forward to seeing you at the Nationals again next year.
