Redclyffe YC on the river Frome just down river from Wareham. Visitors welcome with 4 alongside berths Monday to Friday and river trots all week. Very friendly club just a short walk into the town and many walks nearby.

Maybe easy for those that have been there, but for me you've given me a potential place to visit this Summer. Thanks!

Neil

NeilO,

I don't know where you are based but myself and a few boats from the Solent intend to stay on a few days after the Scuttlebutt Cruise to Poole - pencilled in as May 10-11th - and visit Wareham.

It's a quite magical trip up the River Frome, and the Redcliffe YC pictured here is indeed a wonderfully friendly outfit; Plan A is I think to raft at Wareham Quay but that can be decided nearer the time.

What sort of keel do you have ? Much more than 1 metre might make life awkward...

If it suits, do have a look at the cruise to Poole as it develops, should be fun; naturally we will only bother if conditions suit.

No. At LWS I'd guestimate 1-2' by the Quay depending how far into the river one is rafted out.

The thing is it doesn't get deep either, small tidal range.

There is a shallow patch at the entrance to the River Frome in Poole Harbour, then the river - which is long and winding with tall reedbeds, very lovely - is navigable to decent sized boats drawing 4-5', but they would have to time things carefully.

At the quay it's asking a lot to get a boat drawing significantly over 1 metre there, but there is more water at the Redcliffe YC as pictured, if they have a space or mooring free; from there it's a pleasant walk of about 15 minutes to the quay and town.

The weekend we're hoping to go from the Solent, 10-11th May, is mid between neaps and springs coming onto springs.

Do you think you might join us ?

Hi.

Thanks for the info, I've been meaning to go up to Wareham for a long time, I only draw 3ft, however, I can't dry out or touch the bottom, its a motorboat with no keel and £1000 of props. It sounds like Redclyffe on neaps would be fine. We have a week onboard later in May, might try it then.

burgundyben,

understood; the bottom is all mud as far as I am aware but I still would prefer not to use £1,000 props as depthsounders either !

One thing to be aware of especially for motors, LOTS of weed is constantly flowing down the river - which runs slowly but this is significant.

After a couple of days ( the limit ) at the quay there is enough weed built up around my boat that I have to reverse off to clear it, to regain decent steering control; it seems to be all on the surface - and much worse when someone upstream of the bridge is cutting it at the banks - but I'd keep an eye on cooling inlets and the temperature guages...

Redclyffe YC 01929 551227 - when someone happens to be there.

Have fun !
