Where\'s the water gone?

Bought a Centaur last week (and very happy so far). The previous owner had not used the water tank for years, but I filled it up the other day. Problem is, how do I get the water back out???

Found a THING which is probably a foot pump - it goes up and down, but doesn't pump any water to the sink, and all its working bits, and most of the pipework seem to be inaccessible beneath a cupboard floor. Any ideas on how to get the water from my tank to my sink?

Try puting a filled container of water over the outlet spout and see if it can be syphoned back and break what could be an air lock when you use the foot pump. you could also try fitting a tube to the outlet and put water in, in reverse under pressure as you use the foot pump.

Failing the above it looks like you have a knackered pump.

Get a power drill - cordless if you have no leccy...... B&Q etc sell little gadgets (about £10) that you stick in the drill chuck and fix some 6mm? i/d pipe to either end of the t piece and you just put one end in the tank and t'other down the drain and press go. Job done. Handy little tool for keeping on board. Roy

Most pumps I have worked with draw out complete with pipe etc from the top i.e. there should be a couple of screws on the face which will allow you to do so.Failing that and if it has not been renewed for years I would fit new pipes and relocate pump say at the sink. Not a massive job nor expensive.

You could try a bit of olive oil or veg oil down into the pump- this will sometimes make enough of a seal to prime it and get it pumping. Has worked for my pumps in the past, both toilet and sink.

Put your finger on the end of the tap. Pump. Air will be forced past your finger but can't get back. Pump a bit more. Dry your finger.
