noticable by his / her absence, used to be upto 3 boats on duty last year.... and the presence of very ignorant huge stinkboxes roaring in & out with high wash, throwing every one side ways...? are the mini cat & patrol boats coming back ??

interesting set of 5 hoots - twice, followed by further blast and abrupt turn to port by St ...this afternoon in harbour entrance. Some eeyjit had strayed into mid channel...
did wonder where the traffic police were

Is the patrol remit confined to the Hr Ent area? If not, please could you pass to your hierarchy that an 'anti-wash' patrol in the upper reaches of the Hr would be more than welcome. A very large number of people are seriously brassed off with having boats thrown against pontoons every few minutes. The worst offenders are the day-fishing boats (the Merryfisher types and similar). The drivers just look straight ahead and ignore those asking them to slow down and never glance behind to view the mayhem. The odd yotty is equally guilty, along with the occasional MoBo cruiser; 'Sole-Mate' take a bow for one... Yesterday, I was overtaken by a RIB that must have been doing 25kts who then did a U-turn around my bows and headed off back towards the entrance. In fact though, my argument is not about speed, it's about unnecessary wash created at whatever speed. A patrol presence late on Sunday afternoons would be very welcome indeed.

We were sandwiched between two PB's yesterday on the way out of Pmo Harbour. Lots of space... no ferries etc. The first 50 footer squeezed himself past me on starboard. The wake was dangerous! I shook my head and turned into the wash. The 40 footer that must have hit 12 knots plus by then had a guy standing behind the helm. Saw my shake of the head and seemed to ''give me a look'' ! Then the 50 footers wash hit him and he seemed to run across the cockpit to steady himself.

I HAD to laugh /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

EVER so glad he didn't hurt himself /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Bit unfair to him maybe but they really don't need to pass 10 feet away .... do they ???

At what point does a boat (power or sail) stop being a Small craft? We're all supposed to us the same channel in and out and it does get crowded. That said, they don't really need to pass anyway, do they? The harbour mouth is only a couple of hundred yards long.

When you do get back could you or Solitaire possibly give the tide guage off Dolphin a bit of a scrub. It is a bit mucky at the bottom and I can't read the numbers. Could you also put great big direction arrows (like on motorways ) on Ballast and the Inner Swashway pile. A lot of them don't seem to understand port and starboard and things like that. Welcome back.

There are big notices on Ballast Post & at the start of the channel outside, clearly stating that small vessels should pass them on their Port Side.

Amazing the number of people who can't read & get into close shave collision situations! Harbour Patrol don't seem to police this.

Why is it that so few people take notice of the signs on Ballast and the post just outside the harbour? If they drove the wrong way round roundabouts they'd soon be hauled up. Those signs are there for a reason. Maybe it's confusing that the posts are red, so outgoing traffic is reluctant to leave them to port?

20 metres I think, but I'm sure one the QHM's gestapo will correct me if I'm wrong.

The sign at the entrance certainly says 20m.

Was at Haslar last friday when the patrol boat towed in a yacht with no engine from outside the harbour. Chatting to them I found out the patrol people were MOD employees so I suppose they work the winter period and the volunteers deal with the hordes in late spring and summer!
