I have 5 weeks off May/June with a 40' boat, sailing from the Solent. I am at this moment at work daydreaming where I want to get to, and wondered where other people would go in this time?

Depends on the weather. Get onboard and head west and south. And see where you get to. I prefer to go that way as you usually have wind behind you on the way back.

Then again Germany and Denmark could be interesting.

Do not make any plans and go with the weather.

I have the same decision to make ion June 4 wks off.

Am awaiting reports on whether the French become agitated with Red Diesel this year! If OK S Brittany!!

If this 5 weeks off is a rare occurrence make the most of it and go for South Brittany and the Morbihan at least.

You can do CIs and N Brittany in shorter periods. Like wise S.coast and Isles of Scilly.

+1 as well and I wouldn't leave out La Rochelle if you have time.

Depends on your sailing style but when we have had a bit of time off we've tended to push it at the beginning if the weather is good then sail very slowly back. So in your situation we'd probably do a single leg to Les Sables d'Olonne or La Rochelle, then explore all the way home. If you left on a Sunday you would be there by Wednesday with all the time in the world and a nice long way South.

So many islands and great harbours to explore between La Rochelle and Benodet.

If weather rubbish then enjoy a few hard daysails on the way.

I'd also be tempted by round Ireland but thats mostly because I've always chosen to go South instead.

I think 5 weeks is a bit tight for Germany if you want time to enjoy it, though the Dutch and German Frisians are rewarding. Ireland would make an interesting destination, taking in the Isles of Scilly. I have only been to Ireland once and enjoyed it a lot.

Depends on the weather :D

Depends on the boat? Fast or slow 40ft? How reliable etc?

Depends on your experience?

Depends on how much sailing you want to do?

You could do some long legs to get to somewhere nice and cruise back leisurely say Morbhian, or do long legs, cruise further and come back in long legs say Southern Ireland, or do a short sails out out to say northern Brittany, cross to Scilly and cruise back to the Solent

Southern Ireland could be fun. They use green diesel, speak an understandable language, have great food and drink.

Solent, Dartmouth, Falmouth, Scilly, Kinsale/Schull/Baltimore, cruise up to Dingle and back to Kinsale/Cork, Newlyn, Fowey, Salcome, Poole and home? Although this depends on the weather, but as long as you get back to the UK at the end of the 4th week you should be fine, or you can leave the boat and go back to it the weekend afterwards

Another option is get the boat west the weekend before your big trip if the weather is good....

If you do go foreign, I'd be tempted to get back to the UK for the end of the 4th week no matter what, just in case it blows up or you have any problems that could delay you, much easier/cheaper to sort out/leave and collect the boat on this side of the channel :)

The rias of northern Spain, say 10 days there and 10 back (probably do it in less) - 2 weeks there, you'll probably want to leave boat there and save up another 5 weeks :)
