Dan

already know that if i get licenced in uk i dont need to do it in spain as i will be covered by uk licence !!!! so i have been told anyway ,,,

If you are looking at commercial work in Spain, then you need knowledge of spanish regulations. If you are a member of RYA, then the best solution is to ask them!

thanks for reply , have looked into spanish side ,, and i am not a member of the rya !!! should i seek their advise ???? as to licences ??? is it a masters licence ?? all its for is for me to be able to pilot my own boat for the time being !!! cheers dan.

Seperate license (DOT endorsed) if you want to take out paying passengers. Also boat have to be "classed" to take out paying passengers... (extra safety equipment & stuff).

In Spain they will have their own minimum requirements for this, and you'll have to carry a Spanish Charter License.

Recommend you ask RYA and then look to buy a vessel in Spain which is alredy "Classed" for taking paying passengers. Find a good broker nearby where you're going (where is that by the way?).. Reason for where is that near Gibraltar and up to Almeria you may be subject to more regular inspections by the Customs people who are concerned with drugs being taken in from Africa in smaller boats... so be sure you have the right documentation in place..

nice 1 , reason i was going to buy here and take to spain is for tax purposes as in if a british boat is in spanish waters it is alowed in waters for up to 184 days at a cheaper tax bracket ! as it will be seasonal only and will be possible to trailer away for out season ,,, i need to look into it more as early days ... and possibly mallorca or north of benidorm as in moraira not sure as yet !!! depends on schools for kids!

May be worth joining for a year to get their information. In UK you would need no license for private use. I suspect for commercial use in the way you discuss, that you would need a yachtmaster certificate with commercial endorsement.

Spain has some strange ideas about living in their country - you would need specific imports on the boat as well, there was a thread recently that talked about this, but I didnt keep a copy.
