Can anyone recommend where i can send my Simrad RS87 to have its MMSI number cleared so i can input my new number (don't ask its a long story)

Preferably in Scotland as i could drop off and save the hassle of posting.

Also any idea of cost for this? Been quoted £30 + Vat + return postage for someone down in Dorset? that i thought was reasonable.

There was a thread on here or PBO about the button sequence for the RD68 model- that all they do for their cash. Might be similar for your model.

Alternatively I have used an EBAY trader called PRS Comms, who I recall charged me about #35 in 2008. (not sure why my pond sign isn't working !)

I'd try Duncans Yacht Chandlers in Glasgow, they sent back a Raymarine VHF set for a repair for me, maybe they will do the same for Simrad

Thanks, I'll give them a call.

I have information for the RD68 but no idea for your model.

I have the user manual that states it must be sent back for reprogramming, does not seem to have any section to do this yourself.

I've had to send mine back a couple times.
Once for MMSI reprogramming and once because it failed.
I don't rate the RS87 - not the best VHF radio I've ever owned.

Both times I sent it back to Simrad themselves.
I think they sent it off to Holland.
Both times, the charge was more than the £30 mentioned above (about £80 IIRC)
Try phoning here first

Not a button sequence - you have to open the case and short together two pads on the circuit board. And there seem to have been two versions under the same model number, one of them lacks said pads and there's no known way of resetting it apart from dealer programming.

I do know that from the fee they wanted to re-programme my Simard RD68 it was cheaper to buy a new set. The service from associated firm Lowrance was no better when their HDS7M chart plotter wouldn't work as advertised (which was my fault apparently !), so for me anything Simrad / Lowrance or associated firms - AVOID.

Thanks for the replies, been quoted £60 from Duncans Yacht Chandlers in Glasgow that includes all postage approx. £10 each way so £40 for reset, seems reasonable, drop off radio in morning 7-10 day turn arround.
