Where to moor on the IOW?

Any ideas as to where I should moor my boat when I get it now I'm an IOW resident?

I do want a pontoon, but I don't really want to bother with locks and the like so Island Harbour is out - that leaves Cowes yacht haven or East Cowes Marina. Also possible is Yarmouth though it's a bit further to drive from me (apologies to those of you who drive halfway across the country to get to your boats! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif ).

Any opinions?

OK Bembridge is tidal but its not a problem even for quite large boats. There is a yacht club in Wooton Creek which has a few pontoons and Ryde marina but both are tidal
If you want all tides access plus a pontoon, then Cowes is yer only possibility. I think E Cowes will be cheaper

Cowes Haven is quite exposed and boats occasionally cop the wash from large ships going by too fast in the Solent. Also, it's mostly visitors' moorings, so I'd guess not much sense of community? Wouldn't be top of my list.

Yarmouth would no doubt be nice but I suspect availability is zero at the moment and I think you have to live within a certain radius of the Town even to get on the waiting list (though p'raps you do?). Also not many pontoons and most that do exist are offshore with no power.

I reckon East Cowes is your best bet. It's not bad, imho, though somewhat SunSail-infested. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

What about the new place they're constructing next to Cowes YH, is it Shepards Wharf?? Plans looked good. I prefer East Cowes to Cowes YH any day though, people nicer, place nicer, mooring nicer and nearer to the Folly! Paul

Boat will prolly be around 30' and I'm very lazy so I must be able to walk onto a pontoon!

As I only live a few minutes away I want to use the boat frequently so access must be good at all times.

Looks like Cowes it is then! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Ventnor?!?!?! Yikes!

Was there yesterday - scary lumps of rock and the angle the waves were hitting the entrance, some quite big ones were getting through and tossing the boats around like corks! Don't think spending the night on your boat there would be much fun! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

They've actually got some boats in there have they. I was under the impression they'd built the most expensive model boating pond in existence
