Boat is currently ashore at Fiddlars Ferry. Im trying to get a fairly firm plan for next years sailing, something that may encourage my younger relatives (who all profess to be keen) to get sail.
I was thinking of initially trying for a mooring back at Conwy in the spring( easy travel from Lancashire) and organising a jaunt to maybee to Ireland for month or so.
can anyone recommend a good base (Ireland or not too far from Conwy) for the summer hols, somewhere with good familly sailing/ walking and some good pubs for the skipper!!

Not much choice really.
Howth is the obvious choice (Malahide: estuary entrance restricts entry/exit) with the DART taking you into Dublin easily and Ryanair allowing you to fly in and out very easily.
Prob is that there isn't much to see on the water close to Dublin so you have to sail up to Strangford (OK Carlingford is an alternative but not much there) or south to Cork.
Lots of good pubs in Howth and reasonale walks around the peninsula but after you've doen that once, not much else to see.
Alternatively, why not take the boat up to Scotland. The Clyde Estuary is brilliant with everything from Arran to Tarbert, the Kyles of Bute and the Open sea off the Ayrshire coast. Always a sheltered all-tides anchorage easily accesible, great pubs and great walking.
