Bit dull this but I'm looking for something to clamp some plywood to a shroud. I know that what I'm looking for exists because I've seen them on other boats. Wire rope grips are always too short, and u bolts too wide. I've looked at dozens of ebay listings, chandlery websites, etc. What I need is a u bolt with, say, 10mm between the "prongs" (shroud is 8mm) and length about 30mm or thereabouts - I can always cut some off if too long. Not too much weight to support, so say M6 give or take a size. Anyone know where in UK I might get hold of these?

I attached my lighting boards to the shrouds using Deck Eyes. Just buy bolts to suit. See Force 4 site for example.

Just get some 6mm S/S threaded rod, and make them yourself.

Or try Googling "bull dog grips"...

I would suspect they will do the job...

No with these and nuts and bolts.
See page 5 of the shackles u bolts etc

Great, thanks - I feel really stupid for not thinking of this now!

(F4 search mechanism a bit odd: searching for deck eye brings up pages and pages of things like shoes - a set of oval serving platters comes higher up the results list than, erm... deck eyes)
