Where to get oxalic acid in Ireland

I have read on these forums of how great oxalic acid is for cleaning hulls. The hull of my newly bought 15ft day boat has a covering of something dark brown which I cannot shift. I've tried chemist shops who can only get me 25kg of oxalic acid. Any ideas on where or how to get about half a kilo of it? preferably in Belfast but I'll travel or pay postage if it can be sent by post. FeeMcGorman

I think really think it may not be worth your trouble and hassle going down this route for all you are going to need for your boat, and be
simpler to buy a jar or bottle of proprietary brand boat cleaner like Y10,or one of the gel cleaners, look for `contains 10% oxalic acid`. the forumites previously posting on this subject have been looking to clean vast areas of gel coat. Whilst saving money (i.e. pennypinching) is amongst the finest traditions of this magazine there are limits. In this case you would probably make too much and then have to find a way of disposing of what is a deadly poison.
I use the gel type and find a little goes a long way with little effort.
Your local swindlery should stock at least one brand of this,£7 to 11 a bottle.

Just noticed (paid more attention ) to your post re `something dark brown that you cannot shift`.This sounds as though its all over the hull and may be the result of a botched attempt to change its colour, or other treatment which has `tanned ` the gelcoat.Try oxalic gel on a small area, perhaps repeatedly,to see if its going to shift it.Failing that its going to be hard work with T-Cut or similar

I have to say I found it significantly better than any of the Starbrite products and would do it again on that basis more than cost per se. Iterestingly my village chemist only offered me 500g (at about 5 quid).
