Hi
I have been trying to source somewhere in Athens that can supply a deep cycle marine battery for powering my below decks stuff (Fridge, lights, 12v sockets).
Most Greek battery web sites are only in Greek (fair enough, don't see many UK sites dual English/Greek).
Firstly what do they refer to a 'Deep Cycle' battery as in Greece, as the ones I'm being offered are at best dual usage i.e. starter and house needs.
Secondly can anyone recommend an Athens outlet that I might email to buy one.
I am in UK right now but travelling out to Greece mid June (I hope).
I don't want a Lithium or AGM type, just a wet acid type. My Deep Cycle Hankooks have lasted 7 years so don't see the point in spending large sums of pricey batteries.
Thanks in advance
Paul

Also, try one of the PRAKTIKER stores; last year they had car batteries as well as leisure batteries. There is a Praktiker store by the Athens airport as well as in Metamorphosis (near Marousi in Athens). Have a look at their website, it is in English and Greek.

Here are some keywords for a google search:

βαθιά μπαταρία κύκλου

Μπαταρία αναψυχής
vathiá bataría kýklou

Bataría anapsychís

Use Google Translate to interpret your results if there is no English Language option on the websites you find.

thanks aoy :-)

sorry just noticed (should be looking at the alerts more often...)

I'm not in Athens often and never bought batteries there.
For sure I wouldn't go to a megastore like Praktiker but try to find a dedicated battery store.
Indeed v. often house batteries are just normal cranking ones with thicker plates and CA included (although I thing all now have calcium...)

greek term you need is "μπαταρίες βαθειάς εκφόρτισης" or ΜΠΑΤΑΡΙΕΣ ΒΑΘΕΙΑΣ ΕΚΦΟΡΤΙΣΗΣ.

there's a search aggregator which is helpful (and I use a lot!) but obvs in greek. Did the main search for you, play with the options on the left and see what you get:

μπαταριες βαθειας εκφορτισης 12v - Μπαταρίες & Αξεσουάρ Μπαταρία Μολύβδου - Skroutz.gr

i've added two filters:
deep discharge 12V (βαθειάς εκφόρτισης 12V)
Lead Acid (μπαταρίες μολύβδου)

there's a third option that you probably want (but not too sure tbh)
wet batteries (μπαταρία ανοιχτού τύπου)

Sunlight are quite famous down here (and I think they are built in GR, not sure though)

good luck and let me know if you get too confused with all that Greek...

cheers

V.

+1 on Nautilus, depending on where the OP is based in Athens, they can be handy. Not exceptionally cheap, but generally good quality stuff and reasonably knowledgeable staff that do speak english.

I’ve just bought new house batteries from Centro in Athen. English web site option and the guy responded quickly in good English. Shipped to Lerow in 2 days.
