I am changinging from wheel steering to tiller. Bruce Roberts 34 need a tiller. Does anyone know of a supplier? If I tried to make one - laminated- what is the max thickness of wood I can use without having to steam it. The tiller comes up from the cockpit sole with a swan neck. Any advice or supplier

The max thickness you can bend without steaming would depend on the type of wood, it's moisture content and the curve you want to achieve.

Most laminated tillers are usually made of something like Ash and Mahogany, and each strip is about 10 to 12 mm thick which should bend quite nicely.

Make yourself a jig to the shape you want, and use G clamps to bend and hold the work in place once you have applied the adhesive.

Sand the surfaces to be bonded well so that the minimum of adhesive is used which will make the end result look much better as the "glue line" will be less visible, and use a good epoxy such as West, for maximum strength.

Good luck..........
