Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but people have often recommended 3M abrasive pads to me, and I can't find them anywhere. Could do with some today so will try B&Q etc, but I've looked before with no joy.

Thank you for any pointers.

Many years ago someone on this forum gave a rave review for abrasive sheets as used by car bodywork people but I can't remember if they were 3M. Anyway, I ended up in a place in Portman Road in Ipswich which sold stuff wholesale to garages and I bought Siarex Blue Line sheets [made in Switzerland] 100 off of 80 grade and 100 off of 180 grade plus a double sided Velcro pad or block which was rigid on one side and somewhat spongy on the other. The bottom line is that they cut well, last very well and I'm only about a quarter of the way through the stock that I bought so that purchase will outlast me.

Abrasive sheets ?

Hmmm - wot you usin em for ?

Alway's looking for something that makes the annual wet rubbing down of antifoul easier/ quicker.

Don't mind ending up with soggy blue elbows but if it's quicker with these ere pad's - great !

I don't use them for rubbing down antifouling - I use the green kitchen scouring pad-cum-sponges for that as I don't want to take off too much A/F and I like the fact that the sponge supplies water "as you go". I just like to "freshen up" the old A/F surface ready for the new paint. I use the Blue Line sheets for any other woodwork - either new or existing varnished stuff which needs redoing.

I have used tuff scrub pads which are brilliant for rubbing down anti fouling. Mine have lasted 3 years so far. They are tough and seem just about the right level of abrasiveness to clean off/key antifouling without too much effort. They can be found in various places. I know Lakeland do them.
