I am thinking of cruising (slowly) through Holland and possibly onwards via the Keil canal to Denmark next summer, I may have to leave the boat to over winter ashore along the route. Can anyone recommend either a suitable yard (secure and reasonably priced) or suggest where I might look on the net to find one.
Thanks.

You will be spoiled for choice in the Netherlands, with all the yacht harbours, yards, repair facilities and clubs. Wherever your trip may take you, you will find somewhere to leave your boat, in or out of the water.
You might try to contact Hiswa, the marine trade organisation, or if you want to google, try 'winterstalling' or 'jachtwerf' or 'jachthaven'. The number of hits will be bewildering though.
On the Oosterschelde I can recommend the Van de Rest yard in Kats and Wemeldinge. No personal experience further north, I'm afraid.

this Marina & Yard always spotless /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
no junk, chocks etc lying around a credit to them.
many UK operators would benefit from a trip there /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

there is also a very good Yard in Goes on the port side ( big yellow crane ) just before the road bridge & not expensive, the owner lives on site

Delfzijl north of Groningen - train nearby.

Enkhuisen on the Zuider Zee: also train service.
Hoorn - nearby - good place all year round.

Lemmer - opposite Enkhuisen: plenty of choice there. Train a short bus ride away. Charming place - very good yards.

Avoid the Dutch islands - more expensive and remote.

Thanks for the advice sailorman I was looking for somewhere further North. I have been into Goes - it took a long time to get in, it was very crowded and it took a long time to get out again plus no matter how I tried I could not pronounce its name.

If you have a look at www.botentekoop.nl you will find not only boat sales but also links to boatyards all over the Netherlands. Many of these have winter berthing facilities ranging from bobbing about afloat in the open to being tucked up in a heated 'hall'. The north of the country, Friesland, offers the most choice but remember temperatures there can fall very much lower than in the UK. So thorough winterising is essential.
