Pulled because it was blatant advertising! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If that's true I would like to register my extreme disappointment. It seems that this forum is the perfect vehicle for a worthwhile outfit like JST to use to announce special opportunities.
Many thanks for your questioning of the post and support. I have been in contact with the site administrators and the reason my original post for help was removed was to try and stop any conflict on the advertising rules on the forum.
We do fully understand this and I don't wish to put the administrators or the JST in any position where by we upset any advertisers, or offer an opportunity those who do try to missuse the forum for their own gain
Unfortunately being a charity we have little or no funds for advertising so do rely on word of mouth or forums as a good source of finding crew and awareness and indeed the YBW forum and members have been good to us over the years.
Many thanks to all of those that have replied or I have spoken to, and I am pleased to say that a few of you will be joining us onboard!
It will be a very sad day when a charity, like JST, is stopped from placing an advert on these forums, like the one in question.
It will be particularly sad if this is the result of either forum members complaining or any advertising 'rules' being breached. Yes I agree that there should be no advertising within the forum. But we are a group of like minded people, who I understood were in the main ready willing and able to support the likes of JST. The only way we can get to know of opportunities such as the one here is by a post on the forum.
Please IPC, moderators, take a view on the need these charities have for support. As Ian says:
"Unfortunately being a charity we have little or no funds for advertising so do rely on word of mouth or forums as a good source of finding crew and awareness"
A forum page for charitable organisations and charitable events I think would be beneficial and negate this unfortunate thing happening again and would keep everyone happy.
My company has brought together the JST and our charity The Cardiomyopathy Association and we will all be working closely together next year and therefore would love the opportunity to tell other forumites. With regards to this event ALL proceeds are to be split equally between the Jubilee Sailing Trust and The Cardiomyopathy Association.
Here at Heybridge Basin every year we hold a Row 4A Reason charity rowing event, I'd love to get as much coverage as possible and feel that the rules of advertising can be, or should be, tweaked for these extremely worthwhile organisations.
I would say a separate forum within this would make the most sense.
I understand that a big reshuffle of the website is currently being undertaken behind the scenes and it would be great if this sort of forum page could be included.
I can see everyone's point of view. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks stephen, we KNOW where it is, its the principle of the whole thing.
kindrid spirit suggests a separate forum. NO, that would be like hiding information that needs to be seen by many. This is NOT just a JST issue, it affects ALL charities that want to get a bit of, rightly so, free coverage.
I think its particularly mean of IPC to stop a charity advertising on the forums, after all they weren't out to make a profit just to get some people into berths at cost!
Have IPC become so commercially driven that they cannot be even a little generous to a deserving cause?
This time last year JST posted asking for volunteers for these long passages. About 5 of us joined the Lord Nelson for the trip to Lisbon and had a great time. That time the berths were listed as 'free but donation to funds requested', subsequently they asked for a donation of £15 per day to cover food etc and this time they've just set a heavily discounted price.
As a result of another posting on S'butt last spring, several people from our local disability centre took advantage of the special rates.
In my view this isn't really advertising though perhaps if it had been expressed as 'free trip - just pay for food' it might have got past KWMBO.
Thanks to those who brought the offer to my attention - I have passed the word on to our centre again. I would be very disappointed if I didn't get to hear of subsequent offers because they had been censored.
You takes pot luck. When we went to Lisbon last October there were a couple of gales we dodged but we rounded Ushant under motor then had E5 for the second half of the bay, bowling along at 9 knots on a broad reach with all sail set to the royals, brilliant sunshine and dolphins all the way - the sail of a lifetime.
