Fantastic weather and sailing this weekend but surprising lack of other yachts sighted crossing the Channel considering the settled weather.
Spinny'd across the Channel on Friday to Cherbourg , was surprised to find empty berths at 9pm in Evening on visitors pontoons in spite of JOG race. Nobody rafted up and the pontoon in the harbour was completely empty. Take the JOGers away and place would have been very quiet. ( Only ended up in Cherbourg because I was too damm lazy to get up early enough to make enough westing to Alderney on the ebb afternoon tide)
Motored to Alderney next day in zero wind , again lots of empty buoys. ( how long has the old bird been running the First and Last now? Must be some kind of record) Braye seems to be having a fit of the Health and Safeties as much new fencing around the jetties. No one interested in taking any mooring fees though.
Beat back across to Yarmouth on Sunday, even had to stuff a reef in main and geny at one point, again to find a couple of empty buoys at 7pm on Sunday BH weekend. Be warned the Bouy on the outer row nearest the Black Rock had a chaffed trough pick up warp, we put two of our own warps through the eye. For all the whoha about the new harbour you would think they would make sure warps on the bouys were all present and maintained.
Plenty of shipping, east and west traffic flows were very busy and lots of inshore stuff.
The three crew first channel crossers enjoyed themselves so hopefully they will come again.
