I have several bronze raw water inlet filters on my boat, some have plastic filters and the one for the generator wasn't plastic, while doing some routine maintenance this weekend I removed them all for cleaning, the generator one was completely FUBAR'd I managed to remover all of the bits and the housing is now clear of debris, any one got any ideas where I can get a new filter to fit the housing?

I had those bloody awful metal four bolt italian strainers with the bolt down lids.

I took them apart to inspect them and the body of the filter had almost corroded through,

I replaced them with Vetus plastic strainers with the screw on clear top cover job done.

Check the inisde of your strainer body for corrosion.

I'd try a local canal chandlers. :D Sorry, just couldn't resist. :p

Do nt know any decent ones, they are all a rip off just like the ones on the coast!!

Can't use a vets type, I do know the one you mean, I don't have the space to fit one.

I have checked inside and it's only the filter element that has rotted away.

I will have a look at ASAP supplies

Cheers
Simon

Mine started as a correded basket then I looked at the main casing .

I also saw a small boat that partially sank because a metal drain blanking plug in the same type filter had corroded away , also worth inspecting these if fitted.

As a cheap temporary measure you could make one up using the stainless steel mesh out of a frying pan splatter guard or a kitchen flour sieve. I've found loads of uses for this at a couple of quid a time.

Thanks for your help and Excellent advice, I will know what to do if I get stuck again, I will blame you lot when the misses starts moaning that I have knocked her kitchen utensils.

I found one at Force Four chandlery in Bursledon, they had some stashed round the back.
