But much bigger , inside hole of 1 inch.

I have looked in maplins shop and on ebay but they only have small ones.

( one of my prop shaft bond wires is getting thin and I need to re earth)

In order to help cathodic protection to the Prop and shaft you need to bridge the flexible coupling with earth wire.

one of my earth wires has worn a little thin, it has been on my 'jobs to do' list for a couple of years but I haven't been able to find a big enough end terminal.

Someone sells them because there are 4 on the boat.
I need two new ones, the other side is still as new.
It must have been damaged at some point.

I think the bolts are about an inch thick ?

I've tried googling but they dont show.
most towns have an "AC Electrical"..?????????......electrical wholesaler...if i got the name correctly....
i got similar, but smaller termials for the starter motor connection

Are you sure you want that size? If this is the bolts for the coupling from the gearbox to the shaft, I would be surprised if they are larger than M12. 12.5mm or 1/2 inch ring terminals are freely available. I may be wrong, but suggest you take the bolt out first.

I've got two spare! They were from ventus and were far too big for what I wanted. I'm skiing in the Alps this week but will dig them out on sunday.

There is no way your coupling bolts are 1" diameter, that would be for a ship! I would have a better look at them. Maybe the nut holding the coupling on maybe 1", but the flange bolts wont be.

Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Tranona and Englander are most likely correct, I don't even know why I quoted in inches, odd , well before my time.

I have just looked on a ruler and agree an inch is huge.

The bit I need is much bigger than a 14 mm (spanner size) battery terminal, then the crimp bit that holds the wire is small to take an earth wire not a thick battery cable.

I looked in asap supplies catalogue and couldn't find anything, it sounds like Polyanna has the right bits, if not I will try Halfords.

Why not get a brass washer and solder a lead to it.Then you can crimp what you like.If you cant solder I,ll teach you next time you are at Glanford. ps only joking! !

Thats a brilliant plan thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If I dont get the exact parts I need I can just solder a new earth wire to the old crimp sleeve.

I prefer to get the right bits if I can as I am not sure how long solder would last in a marine environment.
Cheers

ps
we very nearly made it back this year, we even had a berth booked (front of workshop), but circumstances forced us to stay 'on holiday' a Little longer so we are still on our way back /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

As already discussed you can't possibly want 25mm dia. More like M12 hole or M14 just maybe. These are widely available, eg Jimmy TB's link

But are you barking up the wrong tree Daka? If you get the bare lugs you will need a very large crimper to attach them to the cable. I have one but it's big and weighs perhaps 60pounds, and cost several £hundred. you'd be much better off going to a backstreet car garage and get them to make you up the whole cable with a lug on each end. You could also solder but that's not very smart for this application - proper crimping (and solder too, if you're perfectionist) is the best way for this job. And anyway for soldering you need a torch for that much heat, not a soldering iron, else you'll get a dry joint

I know exactly what I want but cant find it , I know I sound like swmbo looking for a handbag /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The earth wire is thin, 5 mm.
Standard crimp tool for £10 will easily join.
It even has a yellow plastic sleeve and looks just like a normal crimp but with a big hole.

The Bolts I have to agree are most likley not an inch.
But I looked in asap for a coupling like mine and they say

for 230 hp there are 8 bolt holes 25.4 mm big /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Mine have 8 bolt holes and need to take 310 HP so an inch is not far off .

I know there must be something I am missing but dont know what yet /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I have found the bolt hole size from part number of flexible coupling.

I need an end terminal of 12 mm ID

I will re check all the links again.
thanks and sorry for messing everyone about /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

cheers
