We want to fit a new teak and holly cabin sole in our Moody 27 and need to find a supplier who can cut it to shape. Someone on this forum recommended JK Howells, but when I called them today they said they only supply pre-cut lengths.

We looked into having our boatyard supply it but they suggested it would cost in excess of £500 /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Does anyone know of another supplier that will cut to a pattern?

Hi Cut to fit is v. expensive. Robbins at Bristol supply the flooringin sheets... reasonable price. I used my old floor as a template and carefully cut with a fine jigsaw blade that cuts down. Take your time..it's not that difficult. Cut off the line and dress back with a sharp block plane. dress the top edge with fine glass paper to stop damage.
Good luck

Hello Anita,

We have recently completed a Van de Stadt Caribbean 40 (pix of interior available showing lovely shiny holly and teak flooring). We have two (plus odds and sods) sheets left over which we would love to sell as they are cluttering up a mate's garage as we are live aboards. Husband is a truly excellent shipwright of 30 years experience. Perhaps we could help each other out? Let me know if you need more info. Ta. Jules.

Hi - thanks for the info.

My husband has a jigsaw but is nervous about messing up an expensive bit of flooring.

As Anubis stated earlier, Jig saw blade upside down (teeth pointing down.Make your own by buying the long blades and grinding a holding shape on the other end) then cover the cutting pencil line with masking tape (you can see through it) to prevent splintering of the expensive surface.

I am currently in the process of replacing the sole panels on our Moody 425. I purchased 4 sheets of teak/holly laminate from Robbins Timber from their clearance sale ( 1/3 of the normal price!!) Hard work but all going to plan so far. Any panels that butt on to each other have been cut with a handsaw (B&Q Laminate saw £9.95 - have got through 3 so far) Outer edges cut with downcutting jigsaw blades and then finished with electric plane. Covered all cutting areas with wide masking tape to protect laminate from scratching. Used old panels as templates but improved on some original cuts by allowing a little extra until final fitting.
