A fuel separator / filter for my outboard. As per previous posts, part of the problem with my Suzi was dirty fuel in carbs inspite of the engine filter and inspite of an in-line Halfords petrol filter. And if any ones listening from Shell, your so-called quality fuels are full of crap. I know - its ended up in my carbs!!!

So... where can I buy a small separator unit that doesn't cost the earth and can be bolted onto my transom. The dimensions I am thinking of are 3-4" long and 2-3" diameter with a capacity of 10 galls per hour and it would come with its own mounting bracket ideally. The engine never uses more than 4 galls / hour.

As always - all ideas from the great unwashed (or is that just me?) would be most welcome :)

Working on the principle of the more the better, why not a couple or so "in-line" filters that you just plug into the pipe-work.

Is the O/B 2 or 4 stroke? I ask, as I had some trouble with our 4 stroke and it turned out to be through using "old fuel", i.e. been in the tank too long. When washing/flushing it all out I was amazed at the amount of dirt that came out as well.

Our main engine is a diesel, and even though there is a dirt/water seperator at the tank and a filter on the engine I added a further in line filter; I used one for a Volkswagen diesel engine that has hose tails for in and out and a water drain off point at the bottom. It was about 41/2" tall but under 3" in diameter, made by BOSCH. I don't know the price in the UK but only 8Euro's in Spain. Motorist Discount shop should be able to help. The handbook for the car states to change the filter every 60,000 miles so should give you a few seasons use.

asap-supplies do a couple, from racor and cav: I already had a diposable cartridge filter/separator w/o clear bowl on o/b boat: now changed to clear bowl type with drain etc....clear bowl ok for petrol if outboard engine according to racor (not for british inland waterways though) & v.easy to spot problems.

Actually bought mine from paul@bsc-contracts.co.uk they could supply racor much quicker than asap & were v.helpful.
