My first post so please be gentle!! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anybody know of a cheap source for Yanmar parts in the UK?

My new boat has Yanmar 3YM30 29 hp engine and I'd like to get a few bits and pieces e.g. filters etc

Perhaps some will have an idea of alternatives to the OEM.

Cheers

This question often gets asked - things like drive belts and oil filters can be got a few pounds cheaper but in the main, the spares are a fraction of the cost of keepng your boat going so it may not be so much of an economy.

My local dealer is French Marine and I always get my spares from them because the free advice I get is worth paying the extra.

Gaskets, anodes and impellors you won't get anywhere else than a marine dealer, and fuel filter elements are difficult to source elsewhere as far as I know, so you're back to oil filters and drive belts as the obvious cheaper alternatives.

E-bay is a good starting place because there are more and more sources of boat parts, so try there - search for Yanmar parts. They may undercut the main dealer but you'll have postage and no access to the odd bit of advice.

I'm sure many parts are interchangeable with cheaper ones elsewhere, if you can find them. I advise you not to try this with impellers, as there have been a number of problems with non-Yanmar supplies. Cheap impellers suffered loss of the bond between the rubber and the inner sleeve.

I support not buying "cheap" service parts. You should find your Yanmar has very little parts requirements anyway, and for annual service, filters, impeller, anode etc the difference between genuine Yanmar and pattern parts is between £10 and £20 overall. Just not worth it! It may be different when you get into high ticket items such as starters and alternators where it is possible to save by going to specialist electrical supplier.

Remember a replacement engine is over £4k so this is not an area to save pennies.

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you are also new to the Yanmar 'donker' you may find www. yanmarhelp usefull in the future

Telepphone ASAP Supplies in Ipswich, they have a full range of filters and impellers for your boat.

They will also be able to do the fuel filters.

You can get the O Rings to match from any decent stockist, but you need a pattern to start with.
gaskets only come from Yanmar unless you buy several sheets of gasket paper in deifferent grades, also form ASAP.

However, I have the same engine and just opted for the emergency spares kit from French marine which came in a sturdy Stanley toolbox that sits in the engine compartment.

What boat is it? If its a Jeanneau, it has a Purflex fuel filter which is washable.

I use Gates belts - they produce no dust compared to the "Yanmar" Mitsubishi belt.

The belt I use is the Gates Extra Service toothed belt and the cost from your local car parts place about £5-£6.

The model for the 2GM20F and 3GM20F is Gates Extra Service No 6469 EXL AVX 13x975 La. 975 refers to the length in cms and 13 to the width in mm.

Obviously this will be a different reference for a different engine. If you take your old "Yanmar" Mitsubishi belt in, they should be able to source the correct alternative.

Good news Keypart have just started stocking Yanmar parts. Saw them at boat show and whilst the website is not up to date if you register online with details of engine they will send you a price list for all the service items.

Vyv, I think it was actually a batch of Yanmar impellers that suffered this, one of my original impellers failed after a couple of months. Anyhow, I think jabsco actually supply yanmars impellers, in yanmar packaging.. I think?

I also believe the problem was with the tiny 1GM impellers mostly, so little to bond to. The replacement I fitted from ASAP has now been in for 6 years.

My 3YM30 OEM impeller failed at 40 hours. Replaced with a Jabsco, now on 550 hours and still OK
