Where can I buy Selden in mast furling spare parts?

Morning all,

Have noticed that my in mast furling line (the continuous line) is not gripping the drum on the mast that well and is slipping a lot. I can bring the sail in using a winch handle at the mast easily. I have replaced the line with 16 braid 10mm line as in the Selden manual and it is still slipping a lot.

I think the "teeth" on the mast drum bit are worn (bit where the continuous line goes round on the mast) and so where can I get replacement? Or would going up to 12mm line alleviate this?

Thanks in advance

DTD

I’ve used Allspars and found them excellent.
I have 12mm continuous line. No issues with slipping. It’s very rare for me to use the continuous line as it’s so much easier with a winch handle at the mast.

May try a 12mm line first then, as the ability to furl from the cockpit is a bonus!

Dave,
I have the earlier version (Kemp Reefin') of the Selden in-mast furling so only have tangential knowledge about your specific design. But I do know from earlier postings that help from forumites will be more appropriate and accurate if you clarify exactly which version of the mast you have. (I.e. some forum advice may be good for one variant and confusing/bad for another).
It seems the evolution path was Kemp Reefin', Kemp Drum Reefin', (Kemp Reefin' Plus), ?, Selden RA, Selden RB and Selden RC.

The 2008 version of the RA manual was recently at http://www.seldenmast.com/files/1426855955/595-059-E.pdf

These masts were a common fit to Moodys from the late 80s on. There is quite a lot of info available for several of the mast variants on the MOA website.
Cheers
Bob

Thanks all and will have a better look at the mast this weekend and go from there, as just ordered a new sail anyway as the original sail (14 years old) was a bit baggy!

Have you greased the furling mechanism recently? It does respond well to routine attention. I'd be tempted not to try 12mm line, Selden recommend 10mm for a reason. Do you apply some tension to the other end of the continuous line when you're furling? That is one way to ensure a better grip on the drum. As you have new line, it may still be a bit shiny - you might try pulling it through a piece of sandpaper just to reduce surface slipperiness.
