Does anyone have a good source for these timbers, both in terms of availablity and price? I live in Kent, but I assume they could be delivered from anywhere, so if you have a local source it would be useful to hear about it. Thanks.

Capricorn Timber, near Uttoxeter. have good Douglas Fir, and most other quality softwood, as well as Cedar.

Whitmore Timber, near Lutterworth deal in quality hardwood.

I agree. replace the Iroko.

I worked with some of the iroko parts on my boat last year, and everywhere I came into contact with the sawdust, I developped an itching rash. One good advice: when working Iroko, wash your hands BEFORE you go to the bathroom.

Iroko / Douglas Fir

You could try these online timber merchants based in Hixon near Stafford.

They sell both species online, but you can talk to them as well (Keith or Michelle are usally in the office)

Know of several who would recommend Morgans of Strood as well. I've also used East Kent Timber at Chartham Hatch near Canterbury - good range of native and imported.

Morgans of Strood

For the Medway area, the best place is Morgans Strood .

Have just bought a 81"x 6"x 3" piece of teak from them, about 10 acres of everything woody from around the world and like Fort Knox to get in.:)
Ring up, drive out onto a muddy marsh straight out of Dickens, and you will be asked to contact a certain member of staff, who, on entering the site will take you for a wander round various sheds stacked with seasoning timber, when you find exactly the bit(s) you want or like the look of you can pay and drive off with your new found teaky smelling treasure.
My bit of planed teak was regarded as an offcut and priced accordingly, the wood in that yard must be worth more than Knox but far more useful.:)

Another vote for Morgans Strood. I as Oldgit did, wandered round, selected some small lengths of Maple, paid £10 - very happy.
