Seems a simple question on the face of it but how do you determine where you are in a weather system? I never seem to get it right.:o

In the northern hemisphere, if you have your back to the wind low pressure will be to your left, high pressure to your right.

Also known as Buy (or Buys) Ballot's Law.

Or my law; if the weather is getting worse you are ahead of the low and if better, behind it.

Combination

Not tried to do that so far...

but barrometer
Ground wind direction
strenght
and the latest forecast together with nav position..

plus of course... look at the sky.. clouds..

On one ocassion crossing the Dover Straits there was a long cloud shaped like the underneath of a huge pipe that hung some 1000 feet up(big guess there).. It just rolled up both sides.. The rain came across in sheets so thick it was like fog, and the wind was gusting fromnothing to lots and back...

Well I thought, I have never been right underneath a barely ocludded front before...
