Normally the forums are awash with Boat Show threads at this time of year, bemoaning the price of food, the lack of cheap chandlery, and the cost of parking, or posting pics of must-see boats. But not this year...has anyone been? Does anyone care? The collective silence is surprising.

Haven't been, don't really care and probably will not go again, too much of a pain to get to, too expensive, nowhere to sit, food overpriced.

Feel less disappointed now? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

guessing a lot of people aren't bothering anymore, hence the deathly silence, look at the show site for webcams to see how busy it is

Ok went on Saturday
£9 to park
£22 for 2 burgers , fries and 2 coffees

usual boats in usual places
not many deals
not many shops selling boat stuff usual ones Jimmy Green, mainspeed etc.
No fishing stands
Not many places offering boat courses
Nothing to keep kids amused whilst we look round.

But was ok enjoyed good to see, may go back Sunday my new boat was there and has bigger room for tender so looked at mine and decided to get a bigger one.

Makes a good day out this time of year

No, still disappointed...how am I supposed to write a Show review if I can't lift quotes from disaffected punters on the forums, eh?

Do as you, I mean everyone else, has always done, copy last years report but remember to change any dates and make a few simple changes. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Went on Friday and had a good day:

- nice lunch in the (friendly) RYA room
- did the tour of HMS Exeter (really enjoyed that)
- a bit disappointed with the small number of inland waterways stuff (which is where we do most of our boating)
- not a great variety of places selling electrical parts (wanted an invertor and selector switch but only found the latter)
- managed to get our yachtie neighbour to climb the Sunseeker stand (until he lost his temper and we took him for a drink)

Good fun.

I went yesterday. Had a fantastic time and was treated like royalty by Sunseeker. Went round the new 34M, took lots of piccys but too afraid to post them. As it is Hull No 1 and still not finished they didnt want any press taking photos but allowed me. Its the most beautiful thing exept swmbo I have ever clapped eyes on.

well it might be those that who post nothing but moanings about car parks/food/lighting/etc etc arent bothering to go. Excellent news;just those out to enjoy themselves.
I m looking forward to it. I m not going there bcz I want a cheap sarnie;I m not going there to marvel at the car park;I m not even going there bcz I think rail transport is such remarkable value.
I m going to see some boats, and chew the cud with some dealers. Sounds like fun.

Hi Gavin

In fact - aren't you going there to seal the deal, so to speak?? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here!

Went Fri 1400-1800hrs and had a nice time and caught up with a lot of who I kept bumping into which was great.

I thought it was quiet - certainly i got on the new boats without others being there. Princess 50 and V85 (absolutely and utterly fab) and Ferretti 510.

I reckon there are less stands this year as some banks and ins co's appeared to be AWOL - I might get corrected on this.

Good show but i could do without the horrid tube/DLR trip of 1 hour to go basically 10miles down the Thames........

SWMBO / self making the 'official' visit on Thursday

No, shan't be going. Too much of an hassle journey for me. My idea of boat shows is in the summer when the suns shining! It looks too dull and miserable outside for me.

My son-in-law (whose in the media business) tells me that Excel is NOT liked much by anyone who exhibits there, so its not just us boaters who don't much care for the venue.

Went yesterday with family and everyone enjoyed the day. Stand staff were all very friendly, helpful and willing, even to get you on the larger boats.

I thought Chandelery offerings were limited but this did have the effect of making you focus on the hardware which, in essence, is what it's all about. Plenty of electrical navaid options to mull over and compare as well as boats.

Personally, I think shows can get too big which invariably waste your time and energy in finding the useful bits but I think this years LBS has got it right in size and mix. If you have the energy, you can certainly enjoy a very full day with very little down time.

NB. The eating / refreshment options down by HMS Exeter seemed less busy and more seating available than in the main concourse - a little bit off the beaten track.

Went on Sunday. Watched the program and was shocked that at this boat show they are trying to get the public on the boats looking around. I must of been at the wrong show. I think that they should be as i was on the look out for a new boat and nobody sold it to me or was keen to answer many questions. As for the food the boat show dont set the prices, thats the Excel centre for you.
