When's the best time to buy Reed's almanac?

When\'s the best time to buy Reed\'s almanac?

Sorry if it's a stupid question but I don't know what period it covers, whether there's an overlap, whether only part of it is date specific. The publishers site says the new edition is due out end of August, should I wait 'til then or buy last years at cut price?

They run Jan-Dec, and as the tidal information is only for Jan-Dec each year they are only properly valid for that year. Saying that though, I haven't bought this years.... all I bought was the tides for Dover and references for other main ports included (£1.40) and from that can work out the tides times/heights etc all referenced back to Dover. It saves spending another £30 or so each year. Admitedly the marina costs etc will have changed, but the basics will be pretty much the same.

When I bought last years however, I got it in July (didn't buy the yacht until July) and then it was reduced to £20. If the publishers say the new one is out in August, is this the 2007 one? If so, I can't see what use it will be for another few months. Maybe it is just an updated version of the 2006 one.

I got my 2006 Reeds at one of those cut-price book shops just before Christmas 2005, It was discounted to about £20. Maybe I was lucky!

The shops usually starty selling next years Almanac around September at full price. We usually manage to find somewhere discounting them in March/April because they have bought too mnuch stock and get nervous.

IMO the best time to buy is just before you need it! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Answer - when its out of date! Got one at Boat Show for £2.50 and bought tide tables for usual ports. Use the Admiralty Tide prediction web site - free 7 day tide times for any port.
