and you come across the usual weekend potterer, old banger of a boat, shagged sails badly set, drifting along at half the speed his boat is capable of but still insisting on getting in the way and spoiling your race just to be difficult - what do you do? Aim straight at him counting on him panicking and giving way? Point out that his mother never knew his father? Or just resign yourself to the likely hood that he is another YBW forum user.

Ah! So that was you on the Orwell at the weekend.... but were you the one pootling up river under engine in the shallows on Saturday which we overtook in our Squib (obviously under sail... :D) or the one intent on standing on on Sunday in the middle of the river on port......

Hey ho we missed you both times & no cross words from us, possibly even a smle and a wave :D :D

I'll tell you after Sunday, I'll be racing up to Cargreen from Plymouth Sound, we're sure to meet a few cruisers heading out for the day. I'll be in a bright yellow little boat long bow sprit and if the wind is over 12knts probably almost out of control. Definitely restricted in ability.

I object to that statement!!
My mother knew all my fathers

leave him be as he is probably enjoying his day as much as you are :)

Sometimes cruisers can be too helpful.

I was watching a keelboat race start on a river where the start was downwind and downstream. A large cruising boat was going down through the fleet, realised what was going on and turned back upstream to keep out of the way. Unfortunately his timing was a bit off and he turned in the middle of the fleet about 15 seconds after the gun. There was chaos.

Most of this description fits me (rather too well, I suspect!!) but I'm glad to say I'm currently on the hard so I guess it wasn't me.........although I do go out of my way to ensure I'm out of theirs (the racy types, that is).
