When should I replace throttle control cables

Hi I have a Morse control lever to a Volvo D1-30 with Sail Drive.

Having read on here recently that someone's cables recently broke when is the recommended time to replace them?

Mine is a 2006 34ft boat - they work fine but are they aged by time or use or both?

Mine needed replacing after 22 years. Think you might have a while to wait...

If no sign of wear (in use or by inspection) I see no reason to replace, regardless of age.

My strategy: Carry spares and change when they break.
I have experienced two cables breaking: One with a forewarning (it got quite difficult to operate), one with no forewarning.
Both cables where of unknown age (=old).

Mine are 1978 vintage-no problem.However the runs are long with no tight curves.
