Very good read this.

Storya bout Nicolette Milnes-Walker, who in 1971 became the first woman to sail singlehanded non-stop across the atlantic.

She sailed away in a 30' sloop; virtually a bare boat other than compass and sextant.

None of the teary weary stuff we have become accustomed to seeing from other sea going females!.

I haven't read that for a lot of years and I seem to remember quite a lot about equipment and stores so she probably felt fully equipped at the time and 30ft was no small boat then. I bet I'd feel very differently reading about it now.

To be fair to the modern types they are doing intensive races whilst she was doing the fair weather route at her own pace, albeit with a lot of courage and I seem to remember a great sense of fun.
