See you in Cherbourg.

The boat is available for hire whenever we aren't using it. Get in touch with these people if you want a go.

It's a bit narrower than I thought, can people pass each other or is it like a chain ferry where you have to choose your spot before setting off. Not that it is a complaint at all, but it would be great to allow people to take turns on the helm if they would not usually get the opportunity for something like this.

How stable is it?

I couldn't resist hitting the beach at speed, shouting out 30 seconds and counting down as we approached, "make sure you bring the Bangalores!"

No, It's Lady Hortense Golightly-Trumpington.

Is that of the Bodmin Golightly-Trumpington's?

In answer to the various questions

- yes, the location is Siblyback Lake nr Liskeard

- the 'bint' with the bubbly is Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall

- no. the boat isn't as narrow as it looks, there is room for 2 wheelchairs abreast, up to 6 in total. There are clamp-down rails for wheelchairs and a supply of removable chairs that clip into the same tracks. That means that the boat can be used and steered by anyone. In the second picture the guy in the wheelchair is steering.

The really silly thing is that though it can take 6 wheelchairs, EU regulations limit us to 5 because the buoyancy is sufficient for 6 x 75 kg but the EU has now decreed that an average person has gone up to 85kg so we are allowed only 5.

And the mast and sails live on our other boat, not visible in the pictures because it sank over the winter and hasn't been fixed yet!

As a small boy I was taken to Sibblyback on sundays where my father was making a short lived attempt to take up sailing. His rugby days were over and I think it was an attempt to fill the gap. I was to small to go on the water and instead played on the tractor. Dad gave up after a while.

He's hardly been near a boat since and when I booked a charter out of Falmouth a year or so ago and invited him and Mum along, he declined.

I did my first sailing at Sibblyback in my teens, having a couple of lessons in a Topper. Being in the land locked Cotswolds, I didn't get another go until I joined the RNR, probably six or seven years later. What a sad waste of six or seven years that was!

I stayed at her place a while back (she has a "cottage" she lets out), 8 or so years ago, charming lady. Are you sure it was her? I would never have recognised her from those photos!
