Pauses, pulls on deerstalker, puffs on pipe.

River looks as if it flows W to E, and there's a vague road bridge further upstream. Bridge pillars in Scottish Baronial style, from ? pink granite. I guess East Coast and not much subject to spates...

Yes, the railway bridges to Perth and Alloa (the latter line currently being reopened), and the Trossachs hills peeking over the top,

Very nice seeing a boat anchored so far upstream. We occasionally see the water bailiff's vessel on patrol, but this the first time I've seen a private boat visiting. Came up from Grangemouth apparently. Would make a pleasant change if a few more brave souls tried it. The River Forth is tidal, even beyond here and slightly to the west of the town, but I doubt if it would be wise to go beyond this point.

Re: Stirling

i used to cox on the river in my school days . the cray ?
dykes were generally regarded as the limit of navigation
( draft about 4 inches i suppose ) except at exceptionally high tides.
the boating club was looking a bit sorry for itself the last time i passed a few years back.

Re: Stirling

The rowing club's having a bit of a resurgence at the moment with a lot of new members, oldies and well as as youngsters. The building's looking good with a recent coat of paint.

BTW, you're not a slater are you?
