carrying on from the what's your favorite bit of boating thread, what frustrates the heck out of you, try as you might it never goes quite right or there's just some element of getting on the water that makes you cringe.

maybe those with similar frustrations have found a way aournd whatever it is that cause you angst, so hopefully, this thread will end up being quite helpful for some:cool:

Already done one of mine in the other thread... holding the boat in position.. My other one is preparing the boat for launch and putting her back to bed after a run out, not difficult but simply a pain that gets in the way of having fun + it tends to cut trips short due to the time taken and having to watch tidal windows launching and recovering from a tidal slipway.... sorting that by moving the boat off a trailer arrangement and in to a marina this coming year.

what's yours?

p.s. perleeeeeeease, no mobo v raggy banter... that includes you Mr Rush/Daka lols:D

Loads, but three that spring to mind.

When your boat handling skills let you down, especially with an audience!

When I've booked a week off then the weather is unsuitable, followed by a week that would have been great!

When you find something else expensive that needs replacing!

Hmmm - Ricky's list all ring true for me too, but the single worst one for me is the week of glorious weather when at work followed by the weekend of wind & rain! Seems to be a common pattern too.

Ironically I was doing a gig last night at a seafront hotel - overlooking a flat-calm, moonlit tranquil sea. Thinking to myself that night boating might be the best means to avoiding clashing with weather AND work for 2012!

Paying the bills plus, as you are coming in late on a Sunday evening and something makes a strange noise or does something it shouldnt. You cant spend time there and then to investigate as family want/need to get home, then you spend your entire week trying to figure out what is wrong and of course imagining the worst scenario possible.

Before we sold the saily boat:
Being constantly told that Bavaria keels fall off.

Now we are moving to motorboating:
Knowing how much I have to re-learn about boat handling

Gotta be the parking for me tho I strangely enjoy it at the same time :confused:. I hate the fact that I don't have the confidence or skills to beable to take her out on my own coz there are days when I'm down there on my own and would love to but too scared!! Dinghies tacking in front of me scares the **** out of me too.

I dont believe there is anyone, who is totally confident about berthing, when they are, it just when it all goes wrong !

When you find something else expensive that needs replacing!

.. a fairly common shared experience :D

What I really hate, however, is having something expensive go wrong and then being reminded of how rubbish - in general - the British Marine Industry is at providing adequate levels of expertise, professionalism and customer service whilst fixing it :(

Blowing up the dinghy, launching it, getting too much stuff into it, and rowing or motoring out to the boat, all the problems of getting on board plus all the stuff. And all this has to be done before you can start to consider actually going sailing.

Then it all has to be done in reverse at the end of the day or trip.

Whilst I am relatively safe on board (usually single handed) it is the dinghy trips in windy conditions that are the problem - and the main danger.

in no particular order......... booking holls from work, towing down, for long weekend and the weather forecast is FAB,but the weather turns out to be BO**OX !!!!!........................people who take 6months to prep their boat for launching by totaly BLOCKING THE SLIPWAY!!!!! AAAHHHHHHHH..........going to cowes to top up with 25gals, only to be beaten there by a couple of BIG boats that need 2hrs to fill up. !!!!......blood presure rising so i,ll leave now........

Excellent post idea. And yes, all of the above plus three more:

1. The cost of fuel from our thieving government
2. Launch fees and harbour dues
2. Cleaning off seagull **** when she's on her mooring :(
3. And only in jest, waiting on the slip with your boat, while holding your friends boat too, while he has to drive all the way back home again because he forgot his boat keys - yes, you know who you are :D

Getting covered in diesel after having to do something with a fuel filter, it stays with you for days, the smell.
