Some previous owner, (the muppet), STUCK the carpet in the cabin of my Fairline Holiday Mk2 to the floor - (it may have been Fairline)

I am gunna put a new carpet down - but before I pull up the old one..... does anyone know if there are any "hatches" into the bilge underneath or is it one solid floor.
If there are hatches then I will make the carpet removable.

What colour would be good?? Pink maybe, shag pile and if anyone has any old net curtains (oldgit / B1 ??) then they may look nice. /forums/images/icons/blush.gif

i had a failrine with far more sticky tape etc than is neccessary - for some bits none at all is needed. You need access to anywhere on the hull (or nearly everywhere) that might get whacked and spring a leak, of course.

Adrian - given your piccy, I love your reference to "muppet".

I can't help you with getting the old carpet up - but I can help you with the new one. When laying the new carpet, use self adhesive velcro on a clean floor surface. A few strategically positioned velcro pads stuck to the floor and stuck to the underside of the carpet, allows the carpet to stay in place in all conditions and uses, and allows you to remove it easily for cleaning.

and it needs the binding round the edges, and the cokpit needs doing as well.

Actually very tempting - when my circumstances change you may be taken up on that.

so is it velco or press studs. mmm choices... choices......

Whipping round the edges, not a problem.
I am also an Upholsterer to trade, so no problem with any of it.

When i fitted the carpet in my first boat, it was onto a wooden floor, Firstly i painted the floor with non-slip marine paint. then i put sticky back velcro down and stuck it with that.

If its going down on a GRP floor i'd probably use Press studs.

Other than that a spray adhesive on the edges would be enough.

Phone me if i can help further, you should have my no.

We're not in a CARAVAN now Barry, the cabin floor is FLAT and the hull is V shaped - maybe that explians my slow speed in Poole last year, must have the family jewels hidden underneath.

For sure if the job situation allows - I want to have a play with the engine before the speed limit comes back on.
When is that do you know??
I need somewhere calm to play with the engine under full load.

Slowdown day is the end of march I think. Fines are being dished out by PHC. A couple of the guys I know at Redcliffe got them last year. Not cheap either from what I can gather.
