What\'s this pin called?

Sorry the pic isn't very good......

Can anyone please tell me what the locking pin is called, it goes through the lever and then the tip folds over to stop it coming back out.

It's on a highfield lever arrangement on the inner forestay.

Thanks.

Re: What, this pin called?

The fitting looks substantial but the pin you describe could well be a drop-nose clevis pin

Re: What\'s this pin called?

A word of warning: mine worked itself loose during a near gale crossing the channel. The inner removable forestay with a stonking big highfield lever attached to it was no fun as it flayed about on the foredeck. Caused some damage. I replaced this with something that looks like an "R" clip (I don't know the name) - it appears much more secure now.

Funny isn't it .... my garden tractor has R pins ... and I lose them regular as clockwork ! I would love to replace with drop-nose clevis or the farm type that has a strong sprung LOOP that closes over whole affair !

The trick to keep a drop nose pin secure is to fir a spring around the pin head such that the drop nose is keeped pressed up againest the side of the fitting so the drop nose cannot turn.

Can't see enough on the photo and I'm too lazy to open photo shop but - you can get drop nose pins where the dropping nose has a curved solt in it so you oush the whole thing through, let the nose drop and then push it up so that the curved slot causes the whole thing to wedge itself together, resulting in the same effect as Rogershaw's suggestion.
