Swmbo wants to cut costs... And I am replacing our genoa... I was gonna keep it as a spare... But the arguement is that we have not needed a spare in 7 years blah blah blah..

So, can we px? Good place to sell used? Any other ideas?

Tricky question..:)
We have a "sail locker" in the house these days! Old genoa, old main and a conventional spinnaker I have almost never used. (use an asymmetric these days) . Three big bags in a corner....
I toyed with the idea of cutting the old genny down to a No1, but didn't do it. Taking our full size genny down is a major wrestling match on deck, and only a little easier on a pontoon, so the chances of deciding we're going to need use a no1 in advance are close to deciding to let the wind ease:rolleyes:
If you sail mob handed it's a fine idea. Not with 2 of us..
Just make sure it's clean / dry and park it in your spare room :D

Ah... SWMBO had the idea of making the old sails into soft carry-all kit bags and selling them...but decided meantime it might wreck her sewing machine...:-)

did someone mention
your luff tension ?

Neat work - as usual, LS !

"The angularity of the solar shade is in sympathetic juxtaposition with the regular corners and uprights of the building, lending a gentle informality to a private area of the patio, whose local stone flooring and ha-ha style low walls reflect the importance placed on creating a built environment in harmony with traditional materials.

No boats were harmed in the making of this sunshade."

For me, the retired sail locker at home just defers the decision - I gave up on that one around 20 years ago, when the throwouts included a small size Cadet spinnaker nearly as old as me! (it had been pensioned off when max permitted size was increased around 1964).

Fiscally, your swmbo has the best idea, particularly if you can flog the stuff for even a quarter the price charged in grockle shops and swindleries.

But the sun shade suggestion (preferably without the architect / estate agents purple prose) takes the prize for me. Just brilliant, Lakesailor, and the sail is just the right size!

I looked at the sunshade idea a while ago, but sunshades are cut flat, sails aren't.
Whatever I did I ended up with big watercatching pockets. I couldn't fit a centre support.
Maybe a storm sail?

I sold mine on the Jeanneau Owners website. There are always those who are less fortunate than you when it comes to replacing sails.

You can advertise on the Bavaria site?

I took 95 quid for my genny and 125 for the main.
Both were the original Jeanneau supplied sails from new and were horrible.
The bloke who bought them knew that because I showed them to him on the boat, and pointed it out. His were worse, and he couldn't afford a visit to the sailmaker.

I've been very busy decluttering the house ( prior to selling hopefully) but so far most of the vital spare boat equipment has been untouched- still in the loft are cruising shute ( vgc but have a spinnaker onboard), old genoa and main, 2 sprayhoods, one sailcover. I also found a Firefly jib but that may go on Ebay.
Non-boaty but I've got left over bits of carpet and underlay-can anyone think of a boaty use for that?

Roll the carpet up to make fenders?

When ashore we are always fighting off getting the boat dirty and varnishwork scratched. So, we put old carpet over the cockpit lockers, floor and the transom where we climb on.

Useful to protect your lines from chafe if tied up against a wall.

Old sails also make good dust covers when painting the lounge, to help ease the way when you have just spent all that money on sails :D...
