What\'s the BEST thing about living aboard?

After listing a whole heap of negatives.. here's some positives /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Waking up to the most amazing views EVERY DAY!

Better weather than the UK

Regular storms- so you know when to be prepared

Cheaper cost of living in general

The wonderful people you meet and who are willing to lend a hand where they can

A healthier way of life (lugging water onto the boat builds muscles!)

Discovering new ways of doing things and being a part time inventor/ discoverer.

Being in one place for some time and on foot means you quickly discover all the things you need within a short distance and you can tell everyone else about them too!

Being able to help all the new arrivals and advise them on where to tie up, where to go to book in and who to ask for help.

Discovering new ways to cook and eat

Becoming fabulous at fixing things (toilet, cooker, pumps, electrical faults etc)

Having open air showers first thing in the morning

Being stared at longingly by people when you do the mundanest thing on deck (hanging up washing in particular)

Finding out all the things to do and places to go that are free!

Anyone else got anything to add? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Exploring new places and meeting the real locals without seeing one false hotel receptionist or airport security grunt.

Anchoring off the beach of the most exclusive remote resorts and making them jealous.

Actually standing on a one palm tree island and meeting up with people you had only ever heard on the radio.

Knowing you have enough supplies on board to allow you to wander off for 3 months at a time.

Meeting a grey whale or watching a humpback teaching the new born to breach.

Having whales and dolphins wander through the anchorage checking you out.

Seeing the stars properly from horizon to horizon with no light pollution.

Seeing meteor showers so bright they light up the sky.

Finding the one piece of sand for miles around and anchoring in a storm just behind a reef. Utterly wild and completely safe.

See you out there in a few years. Seems the happy juice is working tonight

Thats right dragonfly, steal my thunder!!! This was my next question! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Will be interesting to see if there are as many replies to the positive!

Personally, from a rose tinted spectacle point of view i think sitting on deck with a glass of white on a warm day watching all the idiots tearing around trying to make enough money to pay for their excesses would be one of the best things!!
Peace and tranquility ( when your not battling the elements) would be another.
Tying your partner to the mast??? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Not looking at the view from a hotel window but being part of the view.

Slow eroding that conceptual way of thinking where things are always thought of in comparison. Today is great, not better or worse than yesterday, just the moment matters, tomorrow & yesterday don't really come in to it.

y mas, y mas, y mas.........

Cruising around, meeting folk, quiet anchorages, relaxing on deck, fixing stuff, eating healthy stuff you bought at a local market/farmer or caught. Relaxing, sailing, even motoring when have to, new anchorages, realxing, new horizons, realxing, did I mention relaxing with a glass of wine/beer/rum and coke, wildlife, it just goes on and on, I love the life and wouldnt change it.

Uh, dunno.
I have more fun zipping around in my dinghy. Should have started with a dinghy and then moved up to a 20 tonne ferrocement beast.
Tee hee.
Knot all of the above is true.

We're all mad!

...being able to take your house anywhere you feel like!

(btw, sometimes do the anchoring outside a posh resort thing - off Anguilla, $7000 per night villas. Yes, 7 THOUSAND! Watching the envy on their faces as we leave the beach to go back to our boat.....)
