Whats the Best Hot water heating

I have a 35' 1976 Dufour, which has now been refurbished, although the list seems to get longer.
SWMBO now insists that we have hot water on board for showers - not an unreasonable request, as we are decamping to the boat next year to be permanent on board (she, the boat that is, is in South of France, port Napoleon)
So I would like to have the forumites views on the best heating arrangement, I have a leaning towards diesel?
The other major item is bedding It needs to be as comfortable as possible – not getting any younger, I don’t mind spending some dosh but I have had a few bad experiences over the years, any recommendations would be useful.

So fare It seems to be REFLEX central heating system.
Low consumption, (Gas oil and Electricity).

'Best' is very difficult to define, depends on you, your boat, and where you berth. For me, a calorifier with a 230 volt immersion heater is perfect. A previous boat had an instant gas heater, which was OK but seems to be hated and feared by surveyors. A diesel heated system is probably good, especially in combination with accommodation heating by radiators, but no doubt expensive.

There are companies who will custom make matresses for boats, IIRC Snooks has one and recommends it. Again, not cheap but worth it if you have an injury/back condition. We have standard foam matresses with memory foam toppers around 40mm thick, they are pretty good but can be very hot in warm climates.

If at all possible, have the water heated by the engine as well as an immersion-heater and enjoy free hot water.

Also, make sure your fresh water capacity is enough. Our tank is 250L and will service our needs (for 2) including showers for about three days.

Agree engine + 240 volts easiest to install and the safest. Probably the cheapest too!

We have a calorifier with a 240v immerser. That has done us well, and if you intend spending most of your time in a marina where the leccy is not an extra then this provides an ideal solution. Also remember once you cross the channel it will be full price white diesel with no rebate for heating so no cost benefits from using fuel for heating
