Hi I'm thinking about putting my Falcon 27 on the market but I have absolutely no idea what price to advertise at. It's a1990 model with twin ad31s it's in good condition for its age and is well looked after. I want the boat to go reasonably quick as I have another boat lined up to buy and don't want to be stuck with two boats for long.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated !

My falcon 27 is the same spec as yours, she was advertised for 24,995. I have seen the diesels on boatshop24 for 30k. Make sure she is well presented whatever you decide to do as that makes all the difference.

Good luck and keep us up to date.

BTW what is the replacement?

Steve

Thanks for the replys I have owned this boat for about seven years and it has been brilliant but It is now time to move on .I spoke to a local broker who was keen to stick it on his listings at 29995 so I thought I would stick it on myself at 24 and be prepared to come down a bit but it was on for over a week and not a sniff so stuck it on ebay with a 22k buy now or best offer again nothing?

No idea where it is on ebay, but a search for "Falcon 27 Boat " doesnt find it and it doesnt seem to be in the powerboat section at all.Have you got an item number ? ( a link may get pulled )

A week isn't long for this type of product, IMHO you might need to put it up for a month and see if you get a nibble. Did you put lots of good quality photos up and sell the dream? The falcon 27 is a fantastic starter boat with lots of space and those twin diesels of course. shouldn't be to hard to move on. The price is keen.

The boat is listed on apollo duck now as the add on ebay has expired I don't think it's a good place to seek a boat like this .

I think you are wrong, I have sold a couple of 15-25k boats through Ebay, and so have a few other formites. With respect, if you want to sell it you need to work harder on your advertising. It needs to be on Ebay, Boats and Outboards, Apollo Duck, YBW and Boatshop24 as a minimum.

I have found the old ad on Ebay, you really have to put a lot more information, improve the quality of the pictures and put a video on the ad. Asking people to visit the boat thats situated North of Glasgow to see if they like it, rather than improving the ad is seriously reducing your market.

I actually think your price point is pretty good, your main stream competition (i'm not putting Falcon down, but its not as well known to the average punter) is going to be a twin diesel Sealine 285, you need to make sure its priced below the comparable boats.

While some boats sell stupidly quickly (I sold a small rib in under 10 hours last weekend, and that was overnight !) most Sportscruisers like this take months. Its actually getting late in the season, so if you want rid, drop it to £19995, put it on every for sale site you can find and listen to every offer you get. (except for the £2 one you got on ebay )

Good luck, its a nice boat and i;m sure it will find a new home eventually.

Thanks guys some good points to take onboard I'll keep the price set at 24k and be prepared to come down I'm off to the boat today so I'll try and get more decent pictures. I have researched the market and there ain't much comes close price wise (correct me if I'm wrong).

To most buyers, especially first time boaters, boating is a dream. Your ad should feed the buyers' imagination and put the dream come true within reach so a clean and tidy boat, presented by plenty good quality photos of all relevant details (+ close-ups) and text with some relevant detail, is a good starting point that will make it stand out from the masses.

Stay polite, friendly and keep nursing serious buyers.

I assume it's the boat in Gourock? Please don't be offended, I'm a bit direct so please don't be offended. I just want to see your boat sell.

You need to get some much better photos of the boat.

The main photo shows it out of the water surrounded by ladders, a rusty railer and supported on Jenga blocks.

A slightly out of focus shot of it alone in the middle of a marina which does at least show the boat.

An incorrectly exposed shot of the helm which may or may not show a chart plotter, needs to be zoomed in more and exposed correctly.

Cockpit seating with a beer bottle strewn on the cushion (ok probably not a bottle but that was my first thought.

Close up shot with a Black & Decker workmate in front, lovely day but the covers on. Boat covers never look good. Have one photo to show the boat has them and to show people what they look like then take them off for all the other pictures.

A picture of some houses with sunlight streaming across the lens and a shadow of a boat in the foreground.

Bow table not too bad, colours are slightly wrong and there seems to be a fishing rod hanging around. I would also have gone for a wider angle image but that needs a specialist camera and lens.

A cabinet with wood that looks a bit black in the middle probably the picture not in reality. HSS hire something and a can of something else lying on it's side by the window.

Cabin needs that specialist wide angle lens and camera again.

Accidental blurry shot of a galley possibly taken as you walked past it ?

Toilet, your best photo. Could use that wide angle lens again.

I'm being a bit hard and to the point but it's what other people will think when they look at the advert. It's also a bit hard to read through the text, one big block. Why not expand it and break it down into sections.

"With regret selling my lovely Falcon 27 cockpit cruiser. Built in 1989 and commissioned in 1990 this is a great example of a popular boat manufactured in England on the Norfolk broads. Falcon were one of a number of manufacturers who built good solid boats to service the hire and private market. We've owned the boat for X years and in that time have thoroughly enjoyed cruising around XXXXX. The boat is only for sale because my job as an astronaut means I am rarely on Earth and when I am home I'm busy giving lectures, being asked if the moon is made of cheese and if I've ever seen an alien"

"The boat is powered by a pair of Volvo Penta AD31 engines producing X HP each. These easily push the boat along to a maximum speed of X and the twin installation gives security that you will always make it back in the event one engine develops a fault - which I have to say in all the time we've owned her has never happened......"

And so on.

As someone said, sell the dream.

Finally pricing on ebay. This is a tricky one. Do you start low with a reserve or stick a price on as you have done and take offers? I can't answer that. ebay does tend to breed chancers and bottom feeders but stuff does sell and to be fair all the advice is equally applicable to other advertising platforms.

As I say please don't be offended. I just want you to sell the boat. Is there someone in the family into photography or otherwise is there a local photography club who could help out? A picture paints a thousand words.....

Henry :)
