What\'s in your wine cellar ?

I went down to the boat to fix a wee problem and did a quick check on the "leftover" booze count on the boat. It always gets topped up upon visits but I was quite proud of my collection:

3 x 24 crates of strong lager (5%+ only allowed on my boat)

2 x red antipodean plonk

1 x white chardonnay for the gilrs

1 x half bottle of gin

1/3 bottle of Pims

mixers

I'm not condoning excesive drinking, just saying its nice to keep a cellar on the boat.

What do you have ?

Re: What\'s in your wine cellar ?

Kept lifting the sole boards and finding another forgotten case from Mr Gosselin's. All finally gone now. So need to go back and top up. Although having said that, my son and his mates occasionally use the boat as a B&B and the cellar actually seems to be growing. (Whisky, Beer etc). The investment is finally paying off! Not.

Re: What\'s in your wine cellar ?

well were a bit of a special case -living in Sweden ,where booze is not at all
the thing and only available in special state run shops , and being about five
hours sailing from denmark . Some of the boats coming back across the
skagerrack and Kattegat on a sunday night are a lot lower than those that
went out saturday morning . If the weather gets up a bit you can hear the sound
of chinking bottles way inland.
Myself on the boat at the moment ,2 cases Claret and 1 off Pinot Plonk,1.5 litres
of Gin and a lemon (must get some tonic).1case of beer should keep me going till next week when
we go on our next major sailing hols.Germany seems favourite -stock up on the whites
and beer and then get some red in Denmark on way back-not that I take this drinking seriously.
Funny thing is all the norwegians come to Sweden for cheap booze.

Just re-stocked for next weekend!

Only been back ashore for just over a couple of hours so this resume is bang up to date!

2 x 12 packs of Boddingtons
2 x 12 packs of Stella
3 bottles of Chilean Merlot
half bottle of Pussers Rum
half bottle of Brandy
Supply of Coca Cola, Tango etc for the rug rats

Again, I do not condone drinking whilst sailing and we very boringly run a dry ship whilst under way, but it is quite nice to sit in a secluded anchorage reflecting on your days sailing over a glass of your favourite!!

I dont get Sweden

Whats with the booze prices ? The most beautiful women in the world but I couldnt possibly go there. Half my monthly income goes on alcohol, I'd be bankrupt.

What is the theory behind it ? To prevent alcoholism ? I presume it just creates a black market.

M. Gosselin.....

The emporium in the centre of St Vaast laHogue if I'm not mistaken.

Saly all too many S Coast yotties on a jully over the brook aim for C'bourg. Unfortunately the S
'market is closed on Sundays so you need to go to the wine warehouse run by a brit. Good value and a good rtange but little atmosphere and a bit clinical - after all it is just there to supply cheap booze to us. This it does superbly. However if yoyu want a touch of "La Belle France" then head to st Vaast, tie up in the spendid if a little shallow marina and go ashore after a magnificient shower. (I have a whole bag of the jetons that i'm not likely to need anymore so who wants 'em?) Head across the lock gates and up the street going off at an angle next to the big anchor sculpture. At the top on the left is M Gosselin's epicierie and wine shop. Across the road is his boucherie & charcuterie.

Tempted?

Go for it!!

He is open Sunday mornings until 12 noon so rise early after your meal of the previous night at one of the several good restaurants in the square.

1. 1 red wine box.
2. Assorted reds/whites dependent on how many trips to France made.
3. One bottle gin.
4. One bottle whisky for nightcap in cockpit.
4. Mixers , tonic for gin. I'm Scottish so no mixers for whisky.
5. One bottle Pims.

1 bottle of vodka
1 bottle of malt whisky

err, that's it...

Like Bill MacFarlane, no mixers are permitted on board, and I was born and brought up in Scotland.

Where are the real sailors?

Just read all the postings in this thread. Hardly a bottle of rum amongst the lot. What are you, a bunch of cocktail waitresses. "Yo ho ho."

Re: What\'s in your wine cellar ?

Found an abandoned yacht almost halfway between Fiji and Auckland once .On boarding there was about 6 nice bottles or red. About 3 weeks later after a mid ocwean tow and a hand over to the owner 500 miles from Auckland we remarked that the wine was still intact even though the yacht had rolled and was dismasted etc etc. The owner remarked "he liked to turn the red every now and again"

I have one of those saloon tables where the centre is a bottle store, accessed from the top. I made labels for the tops of the bottles so I know what I'm reaching for. They are : 'Malt', 'Cognac', 'Calva', 'Rum', 'Gin', and 'More Gin'.

Does that tell you anything?

p.s. The boat is called 'Juniper'

and what\'s more...

... if you go to his Cave at the back, not only is there a stunning collection of wine at reasonable prices, but the chap (I think he may be M.Gosselin jnr) provides some telling advice on what to select - he has led me to some very good buys.

It is a terrific shop - I would love to take a franchise, and open up in, say, Dartmouth, or Fowey. Or would it just not be relevant to the UK?

He's also got another cellar in the basement where he keeps his special collection under lock and key. I told him I wanted a bottle of wine to have with a lobster on my birthday. He took me down and unlocked it for me to browse around. I' m still starry eyed yet !!!!!!
